About me:

yin yang

First, let me welcome you and thank you for checking out my profile. If you're reading this, that means you took the time out of your busy schedule to learn about me which really means a lot. So, thanks.

I’m an extremely sensitive person, sometimes to the point of being overly sensitive which can sometimes be paralyzing. I need a lot of alone time; but I do enjoy being around other people. I totally enjoy hearing other people’s views about everything, especially religion and philosophy. I think I am fairly open-minded, but I am also very opinionated and stubborn. If I don’t like something, I’ll tell you. I try to always let people know when they’ve crossed the line because disrespect is the worst of all flaws in society, in my opinion.

I am a highly creative person who can be intense and passionate. I tend to think abstractly and get distracted and bored very easily. I have a lot of weird little quirks (most artists do), but they are what make me unique and genuine. My unique personality allows my imagination to consume me causing my creative mind to crave new and exciting experiences to learn from.

Intellectual conversations and continuous learning are important for the growth of an individual and I love to learn about everything. I ask questions, learn as much as I can, and my life becomes more fulfilling and worthwhile. An advanced interpretation of the world can be gained from educating yourself beyond the traditional life experiences. My curiosity for learning new things motivates me to explore possibilities I never dreamed of.

Who I'd like to meet:

I am very interested in meeting people who share a natural curiosity of the world we live in, people striving to find solutions to educate the public about the many issues that so often go unchallenged. Education is the key factor in bringing about positive changes that will allow society to progress in a much more productive and responsible manner.

Interests

  • General

Creative expression through art is therapeutic and relaxing. I find that when I am drawing I feel more at peace with myself. When my work is going well, I am filled with a sense of satisfaction and achievement. Art allows me to use my creativity in a constructive way that helps me build my confidence and strengthens me as a person. Though I seem to be spending less time drawing these days, it has always been something I come back to over and over again.

My interests shift like the wind; but some of my favorite hobbies have included photography, karaoke, playing the piano, hiking, swimming, kayaking, and video games. I love to learn about everything. I devote a lot of time to studying and researching a variety of different subjects. I particularly find philosophy, psychology, and sociology to be among my favorite topics because understanding this human existence seems to be the best way to have any peace in my life.
  • Music

Music has definitely always been one of my passions. I like to listen to a variety of music. In my opinion there are three types of music: music that moves the soul, music that moves the body and music that moves the mind. Let me explain. Music that moves the soul is music that has the inspiring lyrics, perfect harmony, perfect pitch, and moving melody. This type of music is my favorite because it elicits an emotional response that can often be inspirational. Even though I think it’s very rare to come across music like this nowadays, a small percentage of true artists do exist. Most of the classical artists would fall into this category, though, as an example. Music that moves the body is music that just makes you want to dance. It’s all about the beat. I’ve often related this type of music with the various “courting” rituals of all animals that even humans possess (hello, we are animals, duh?). Music that moves the mind is music that stirs thought. It obviously has a message to be shared; therefore, it’s all about the words.

  • Movies

Magnolia, Moulin Rouge, Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, Pleasantville, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, The Notebook, Fried Green Tomatoes, American Beauty, Eyes Wide Shut and any documentary that will teach me something new. Check out Flixster: http://www.flixster.com/user/pixygiggles

Favorite Actors and Actresses: Tom Hanks, Adam Sandler, Nicole, Kidman, Drew Barrymore

Favorite Directors: Tim Burton, Stanley Kubrick, Quentin Tarantino

Favorite Movie Quote: It has been said something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world. ~ Chaos Theory

Movies and music are two of my passions. The most remarkable movies are those which have a strong emotional impact on the viewer by using creative techniques that make the film unique. I love movies that take me somewhere I have never been before. I am awestruck by the accomplishments of the movie industry and the great minds creating our escapes from reality.

  • Television

Growing up, I watched a lot of TV with my family as most kids did; but face it, there was a much better selection of programming on in those days than there is now. Even as corny as some of those shows seem now, they still had better plots and variety than most (not all) programming today. A while back I started this play-list on YouTube of TV show intros from my favorite programs as a kid. I've since added some intros to shows that I thought were noteworthy to mention that I didn't necessarily watch then; but I thought I would share this "blast from the past" with all my friends here on Myspace for your nostalgic viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

  • Books

His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman, The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, Dean Koontz, Darwin's The Origin of Species and Einstein's Relativity: The Special and General Theory books about different religions, science, and psychology. I love to read, but I usually don’t have a lot of time for reading. I also have a pretty short attention span; so more often than not, I end up reading shorter articles online.

  • Heroes

Dictionary.com defines "hero" as: "a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities." Giving this some thought, I concluded that my heroes are those people who have in some way enriched my life by causing me to challenge my own beliefs and ideas about the world around me. Among these people are: Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, Susan B. Anthony, Gene Roddenberry, Carl Sagan, and Richard Dawkins.

With the state of our government, economy, and religious institutions, I would have to say that my heroes are those people who stand up to the way things are, those people who are educating others and opening the eyes of so many to question what we accept as reality. Life could be so much more meaningful if we would all stand together and actually fight for the changes we so desperately need.

    Strong instinct for survival
    Romantically insane
Moving soft along the edge of time
Like a panther in the rain

    Manipulated rebels
With a total disregard for the rules
When pride comes tumbling off the great white stallion
You move closer to the truth

And the search continues for the meaning
    They build the cathedrals high
But we keep our weapons ready
    Looming dark against the sky

They're taking down the rain forest
Changing it to a room without a view
And the big trees fall like dominoes
    And we move closer

The eagle watches from the mountain
As the warriors turn into fools
And the dice are thrown on sacred ground
And they move closer to the truth

And who's gonna tell the children
How the rivers used to flow cystal blue
And we keep leaving scars on Mother Earth
And moving closer to the truth

Hey Patricia! The flowers you mentioned are Fire Pink. Obviously they are red and not pink, but the pink refers to the family they're in -- which also includes Rose Pink, Indian Pink, etc. They're usually found on rocky wooded slopes or cliffs, but we found these in the middle of the woods near the limestone glades. They're very cool flowers... there's nothing else that looks quite like them.
