I'll read most anything that's sci-fi or horror related. Historical fiction is a growing interest of mine. And I've been known to read poetry, Shakespeare, Poe, Hugo, and various other classic authors. I'll even read a romance novel if it captures my attention. So, I guess you could say that I'm willing to read almost anything if I find it interesting. | | Heroes | My mom has to be at the top of my list. For the most part she raised me alone, has accepted me from the get-go for who and what I am, and has always been there for me.
On an equally personal note, I consider all of those openly GLBT teens in high schools today to be heroes of a sort. I envy their courage, and wish that I had been able to do the same when I was in high school. |

Alan's Blurbs |
About me:
Well... there's not much to tell. I'm single, gay, and a life-long Brooklynite: Flatbush, Brighton Beach, and now Bay Ridge. I'm a second generation American who is part German Catholic, and part Polish / Russian Jew. I was raised a Roman Catholic, but am now an Episcopalian (long story!).
I'm an actor, a writer, an amateur photographer, a railfan / train spotter / train buff / foamer (depending on where you live in the world), a model railroader, and a novice webmaster. At age 35, I also seem to find myself as full-time college student -- which is another very long story. The short version of which is that I am a 2nd year performing arts major at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, NY. I will probably be going out of state for my BA in the fall of 2008, but where I'm going is anyone's guess.
Personality-wise, I've got a warped sense of humor, and I have occasionally been accused of having my mind planted firmly in the gutter -- although I cannot imagine why. *innocent look* And I am definitely a romantic and a dreamer who yearns to find his niche in the world... perhaps on the Broadway stage, but more likely in theatre in general and possibly teaching on the side to keep a roof over my head.
Presently, when I am not dealing with classes or a theatre production, I'm working on a sci-fi novel (PriCon III) and several other, less commercial, writing projects that I tend to work on in fits and starts. E-mail me (piyer AT rockycrater DOT org) or grab me on AIM (sn: AJKleipass) if you want more details, or just to chat.
Last, but hardly least, I'm a dog owner. Meet Baloo, my 9-year-old German Shepherd:

And Sandy, my 2 1/2 year old Golden Retriever:

Who I'd like to meet:
A man.
Hey! you asked, didn't you?
Okay, okay, let me try to be a bit more serious. I'd like to meet people (male and female) who share my interests. Sure it makes you feel great to have scores of "friends," but if you have nothing of substance in common then what is there for you to talk about? And I do enjoy a good conversation: Good food + good conversation + great friends = an excellent way to spend an afternoon or evening.
I'd also like to meet more theatre folk (yes, a shameless hint to certain of my friends here). While waiting for the house to open for Les Mis, I managed to strike up a conversation with the mast of the fly ropes -- whose name I regret I didn't catch. It was a fascinating discussion of stage designs, the flies, and set piece storage (among other things).
