| About PJ Stroller |
PJ Stroller, a.k.a. Reginald Lafaye, knows what it takes to produce a slamming dance track: thick textures, militant snares, catchy melodies, hard pounding kicks, crushing bass --all pureed in a psychedelic blender so that the booty of even the most modest clubber is guaranteed to start shaking. As the son of an accomplished saxophonist, musical ambitions are PJ's birthright. Training as a symphonic percussionist and jazz drummer paved the way for his dexterous finesse on the decks and in the studio. Hybrid has pronounced PJ's music to be "some of the best American produced dance music we've heard".
Upon his arrival to the Colorado scene in 1997, he started producing drum & bass as Apparatus with his production partner, Joe Flarsheim. Apparatus enjoyed modest success with the release of the track "Portal" on Club Records, gaining the praise from renowned NYC DJ Swingsett and many others.
In 2001, PJ left the drum & bass arena and went solo to align with a deeper calling. Producing what he calls "clubby four-on-the-floor progressive funk", his music has been the soundtrack for dance floor vibes worldwide. His limited edition "Gravy (Rocky Mountain Mix)" track was immediately supported by the creme de le creme, receiving massive approval from Danny Tenaglia in NYC, then licensure by Craig Richards and Lee Burridge for their "Tyrant 2: No Shoes, No Cake" mix cd in 2002.
PJ's standards are set very high. There is no use for any weak sounding element in his tracks. Pushing the sound and mixes to new levels a constant expectation. Sound quality is priority number one. PJ explains, "I am not happy until I have sounds that are so thick and lush that if one of my kicks was the only thing coming through the speakers that it would be just as effective on a dance floor as a track with all the typical elements playing."
PJ Stroller has formed a new alliance called Friends in Stereo with long time friend and breakbeat dj/producer, Satori-C, a.k.a. Colin Chapman. With fifteen years combined experience behind the turntables and in the studio, this dynamic duo has an uncanny ability to understand dance floor mechanics. Friends in Stereo's live performances are an onslaught of crushing party breaks, leaving crowded dance floors begging for submission. Currently in negotiations with Stevie Wonder, and already a hot topic in the international circle of dj's such as Nick Warren, 2008 is looking to be a promising year for Friends In Stereo and their unique brand of sonic party grooves.
