James Styring, who wrote and sang the songs, co-writing many with Tim Mckeating, who recorded and played them. He is the front legs of a runaway horse. Martin Collins is the drummer on Make It Better, Acts Of Love and Distance Between. WHEREVER YOU ARE, WE WISH YOU WERE HERE.

A childhood spent discovering the wonders of a parent’s record collection. Losing a friend.

We wanted to catch the songs quickly, so most were first takes. And when we listened back we liked the first takes best and decided we had captured a moment in time maybe a little too special to erase or re-record. Tim gave his time. And his patience. Operating the controls and playing all the instruments like a one man band. He became a translator, taking my original demos and presenting them in a language we all could understand. He earned himself a medal. We tried to keep things simple, but songs have a habit of developing a life of their own in the studio. They can become badly behaved kids. Most kept their acoustic roots. One or two didn’t. But we didn’t chastise them. We watched them grow. I hope you like them when they reach you and can come to see us play live when all this snow has cleared.
