Raj Sidhu, a native of India, made the move to Arizona in 2001. After earning a MBA in finance at the University of Phoenix, he bought Plaid Eatery and the rest is delicious history. Construction in and around Arizona State University has turned this particular spot into one of Tempe’s best kept secrets. Although Plaid Eatery may be hard to find at the moment, the hunt is certainly worth the bounty. The hippie chic interior, with its Asian-Indian fusion motif, is relaxing as well as intriguing. An eclectic array of comfy couches, booths, chairs and patio tables await. Plaid’s menu is full of vegetarian entrees and dessert choices. Carnivores are given a variety to choose from, so don’t discount your meat-eating friends. Students and professors mesh at this bohemian hangout by eating, chatting, reading or just relaxing. Be sure to try one of the “Plaidders” — the “Plaid Thai” is not to be missed. With flavors like garlic and peanut, this signature dish will leave your taste buds in rapture. You will also have plenty left over for that late night rampage through your fridge.
