PlainSounds Ltd is an independent record label in the true sense. We are not affiliated to any larger music corporation and we employ the services of independent distribution companies. In these times of economic gloom, many labels have started seeing artists as a direct means of achieving revenue - tempting excitable bands into their shortbread studios with the promise of a delicious CD when really they just want to charge our Hansel and Gretel rockers for the adventure regardless of ability or talent.

The upshot of the robbery is that standards fall in favour of a speedy turnaround of gullible hopefuls and those who haven't the dough are not given a chance regardless of talent. Let's get historical for a moment. Elvis was a truck driver from Tupelo Mississippi. If Sam Phillips had wanted a $2000 advance before letting him loose in the Sun Studios the world may never have known rock and roll.

PlainSounds Ltd do not charge artists signed to our label for upfront recording expenses. Instead we absorb the costs from day one and claim the balance back further down the road when a record actually sells. We have more motivation than any other label when it comes to getting your music on the airwaves and in the shops. We spend a huge amount of time on the live music circuit selecting bands on the strength of their talent, not their bank balance. And we know talent when we hear it; our team includes seasoned producers, engineers, musicians and music journalists. We don't do demos, we make records.
