Is a self-describe band playing music for ‘partying, dancing, and rocking’—twisted funky rock with occasional reggae riffs thrown in for kicks. Marc Bell, drums and vocals; Chad Schuler, lead vocals and guitar; and Josh Felter, bass guitar, have a wide array of styles but keep everything tied together with a funk fusion of their own. The sound of Planet Down is most influenced by 311, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Pepper, Slightly Stoopid, The Expendables, Parliament Funkadelic , Bootsy Collins, James Brown, Chick Korea, Mike Stern and Jazz Mafia.
Their debut album, Order to Chaos is their first production since they began as a band in 2003 and is an experimental expression of songs from their past and present days of growing up in the Napa Valley and is a great representation of their evolution as musicians. The true power behind the three-piece however, is found in their live performance.
Most recently PD has made the move from their living room studio in the northern Bay Area to their studio in downtown San Francisco; all the while preparing for their second album set to be released in early 2008.
Planet Down is on a mission to be heard playing regularly at venues in and around the Bay Area, but is looking forward to branching out domestically and internationally.
Aside from playing music, food and wine is also the band’s passion. They all grew up amongst the vineyards of Napa Valley and boast day jobs in the service industry. PD prides themselves on their people skills and their ability to have a good time.
With good intentions and the ability to move a crowd, theses three gentlemen are a prime up-and-coming band. They tastefully fuse style with class in a colorful display of rock, reggae, jazz, and funk. Be on the look-out for these three in 2008.
