Planet Sound Music is a musical performance group that combines the musical vision and aspirations of international musician “Mr.Will” and West African Master Drummer Jahman Sillah who together have created a sound that mixes West African and Filipino heritage with the instruments and culture of the West Midlands.
The group uses a range of traditional instruments from West Africa and instruments from the Western culture to produce a sound and performance that is unique, educational and entertaining – with audience participation a strong feature of the performance.
The group has performed at events since the start of 2007, with the line-up being finalised in the autumn, and is currently in the process of recording the first full album and booking a performance schedule for 2009
All members of the group are active in making music accessible to the community via the musical charity wing called “Planet Sound Community Arts”.
Planet Sound Community Arts typically works with over 2,000 people in a variety of settings each year to educate people in the art of West African drumming and other cultures and to encourage creativity and self expression through music, and typically a concert will be opened by one of the community groups, led by a member of Planet Sound Music.
