Predictions for the New Year include historic snowfall of 5-10 feet at Lake Tahoe Thursday, Jan. 3 – Sunday, Jan. 6, according to the National Weather Service. Recent storms have created a substantial base at South Shore Lake Tahoe ski resorts: Heavenly Mountain Resort has 2-3 feet, Kirkwood Mountain Resort, 3-4 feet, and Sierra-at-Tahoe, 2-3 feet.
"The strongest front is scheduled to hit the Sierra on Friday, Jan. 4" said Brian Brong, meteorologist National Weather Service in Reno, NV. "There is a good chance several feet of snow will accumulate this weekend."
"We are completely prepared, fully staffed and with every piece of equipment ready," said Mark Dinger, Caltrans spokesperson. "Our job is to keep the roads open and safe for travelers and that's our plan."
Dinger encourages people to check Caltrans Web site for up-to-minute conditions: www.dot.ca.gov/dist3/departments/mtce/chaincontrlmp.htm or call 1-800-427-7623 or 916-445-7623.

Waves is a non-profit organization started in 2007 by San Diego locals. Through the realm of action sports, our goal is to raise awareness of issues that go under reported in the American media. The focus of our first event series is to raise awareness of the conditions in Darfur. Since we have started this campaign, we have had some amazing people jump on board with us: Skinnie Entertainment magazine, The Wave House, Never Satisfied Productions, Blanket-a-Human, and Planet X tv. Check out our page and if you like what you see come out and show your support!
