BIO
Plastic Acid is a string rock band with Bryan Deans (cello), Marissa Deans (viola and violin), Brad Pyke (drums) and Nick Urquhart (double bass). Bryan is a cellist, conductor and composer and works with West Coast Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra among many other projects. Bryan and Marissa got their start busking in the streets of Vancouver as teenagers in the late nineties writing many of their early tracks during this time. Brad soon followed providing some of the most amazing beats to Plastic Acid's unique sound. This past summer saw the addition of Nick Urqhart, an awesome local musician and conductor, who has added the missing octaves that Bryan's cello can't reach. Combined, they are some of the best musicians coming out of Vancouver and their dynamic careers in Vancouver's classical music scene is the backbone to their avant garde sound.
Plastic Acid also performs annually as a full orchestra known as Plastic Acid (a Rock Orchestra). The first Plastic Acid (a Rock Orchestra) concert occurred at the Caprice Nightclub in May 2006 and was so well received by concert-goers that two back-to-back shows were scheduled back at the Caprice for the week before Christmas, 2006. The premise of the Rock Orchestra is to showcase a full orchestra experience in a club atmosphere, and combine it with both original scores, classical pieces and covers of modern rock songs. The orchestra has performed with guest conductor Risa McDonell, original scores from local composers Martin Reisle and Patrick Ernst, classics from Dvorak and Beethoven as well as covers of songs from artists such as Soundgarden, Pink Floyd and Queen. The point is to allow for a wider, more diverse audience into a symphonic world which, so far, it has.
