About 10 years ago, the creative core of Plastic Explosive was formed in San Diego, CA. This is when high school chums Brandon Burlington (guitar) and Kevin Lau (bass) began meeting together to massacre their favorite songs with crappy instruments. After a while they realized that it was much more impressive to girls if the labeled this noisy mess original music. They have employed this scheme ever since.
Ray Argyle (vocals/keyboards/acoustic guitar) has played various instruments in several San Diego bands. Most notably, he played bass and sang back up vocals for the band Congress of the Cow which gained some local acclaim in 2002 when they were voted Best New Artist by The San Diego Music Awards. Argyle then went on to try his hand as a solo artist for a couple years before realizing that being a singer/songwriter is for douche-bags.
Trevor Holland (rhythm guitar/backing vocals) tried out for American Idol and when that didnt work out he settled for playing guitar in a band. Hes still a little bitter.
These unlikely collaborators have been playing music together for the past 2 years. The common bond seems to be an appreciation for bands such as: Television, The Smiths, The Cure, The Wipers, Interpol, Hot Snakes, Hot Hot Heat, The Walkmen, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Radiohead. Their sound meanders between Post Punk, New Wave and Garage, without adhering too predictably to any genre. Despite this quality their songs remain accessible to a broad audience.
Plastic Explosive had a successful tour to South by Southwest in Austin, TX (March 2005), theyre debut self-titled release was nominated for Best Alternative Album by The San Diego Music Awards (Sept. 2005) and they continue to regularly play high profile shows in San Diego and Los Angeles. They've shared the stage with bands like The Kills, She Wants Revenge, and also had a spot on the mainstage of the 2005 San Diego Indie Music Fest alongside Veruca Salt. The second album "Scan The Wasteland", which the band has been working on for the past 2 years is now available through.

Well, since Plastic Explosive seems to be dead (hopefully PE has just been cryogenically frozen for the time being, much like Walt Disney's head), let me just say that if "Scan The Wasteland" is indeed your swan song, it is a hell of a swan song to say the least. I just want to say thanks for being a kick ass band for the past few years, and hopefully you guys will collaborate on some more music sometime in the future. It was a blast to follow you guys from your first record to the last one, and with those along with the live recordings I have of you, I'll definitely continue listening to your music for many years to come, introducing your fine sound to more and more friends.
