   About Paul Mulligan

Album Available to Buy Now On CD and iTunes

Paul Mulligan - Strong Friend

"Galway-based singer-songwriter, Paul Mulligan, may not be a name that's familiar to many, but it's pretty certain that many will be familiar with the name of John Prine who contributes vocals and guitar to a couple of tracks on Strong Friend -- one of which is Prine's own song "Aimless Love." You can possibly imagine what Strong Friend might sound like just from that opening paragraph. Mulligan brings his easy, story-telling into a predominately acoustic musical setting that draws subtly on both his native Irish tradition and the American country influences that one might associate with Prine. Of his fellow countrymen, Mulligan is probably closest in style to Christy Hennessy in both the personal, reflective nature of his lyrics and the delicate, sensitive delivery of his vocals. Strong Friend is a beautifully understated collection of dreams gone by and the usual unrest with everyday life. The songs are both penned and delivered with poise and sensitivity, asking the right questions and tugging at the right heartstrings." Mike Wilson-folking.com

"This, his debut album, reveals a talented and sensitive songwriter - Mulligan plays excellent acoustic guitar backed up by a bevy of capable musicians -The music inhabits the territory between Hank Williams, James Taylor and Christy Moore, painting an aural picture of personal angst without touching the hell realms of Damien Rice et al." Keith Fitton-Rock and Reel magazine

Paul was born in Dublin and grew up in Kells Co. Meath. He moved to Kinvara Co. Galway in 1996 where he set up the “Audiomonkey” recording studio and record label. He has been working behind the scenes in the music business there since. His music has been recorded byIrish singers Ealanor Shanley, Niamh Parsons, Mary McPartlan (Mojo folk album of the year 2005}, by Scottish band ‘Fine Friday' and by California based singer Sylvia Herold (Cats And Jammers)

Hey Paul - Just found an email from Arts Officer Harold in my yahoo account. It's the first time I've receive a message from him that in any way related to me. I am not even sure where he got my address! At any rate, his message says that you, Tony Trundle and John Faulkner are at the Galway Museum, tomorrow. I will hurry to the airport as soon as I sign out, here. If I don't get there in time, I hope it goes well. It's not a bad spot to play. Only don't set up under that boat they got hanging from the ceiling - just in case, like.

Ahoy! A songwriting singing duo called The Lost Brothers are doing a gig at the Roisin Dubh on the 4th of May. They were in Portland, recently, for a few weeks, recording their second album. I know one of them from Omagh. Check out their myspace. I'd say you'd like the vocal harmonies and the finger-picking on "City of the Rose." See what you think. All the best....

Sad though eh? changed days. Some of the mightest sessions with some of the best used to just happen out the blue on Paddy's day in Kinvara! Sure ye will just have to grab a few folks and come here to my place next year and we will play till our heads (or arms) fall off..lol
Hope the weekend is good to ye.

"Mississippi governor J. P. Coleman, whose car had been mobbed by fans who mistook his arrival for their idol's, was backstage, and while they were taking a picture together, Elvis told the governor he thought he might go into politics himself. 'Oh, what would you run for?' asked the governor. 'The city limits,' said Elvis affably."

(Last Train To Memphis, Peter Guralnick)

Hey, Paul - hope you're doing well. All the best, from Portland, Oregon.
