ABOUT PLATFORM 2
After the success of 2008’s Platform 1, Platform 2 Hip Hop Festival will take over CarriageWorks’ urban jungle with two days of high-powered Hip Hop culture representing Breaking, Graffiti, Beatboxing, MCing and DJing. Old skoolers, hip hop novices and everyone in between can get into the vibe of true Australian Hip Hop culture at Platform 2. Over 50 emerging and established artists and performers will be featured in two massive nights of entertainment, and everyone can join in the many workshops and free events.
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR NICK POWER (AKA B*BOY RELY)
Ensuring true Hip Hop is represented at Platform 2 is artistic director Nick Power aka B*Boy Rely, a well respected Hip Hop artist working throughout Australia and internationally as a B*Boy, choreographer, performer, teacher, and activist. Most recently, Nick performed in Survival Tactics at Sydney Opera House and has just returned from a European tour with Stalker’s Stiltbreak which he directed. Nick is Artistic Director and Producer of Battle City (a breaking battle and Hip Hop street festival in Brisbane’s CBD), and has been a tutor at Stamping Ground Festival for 7 years. Nick has also been a judge at three National Breaking Championships.
FLEXING SKILLZ freestyle comp

Opening night brings over 20 of the best Australian Hip Hop artists together live on stage for FLEXING SKILLZ: Platform 2’s high energy Hip Hop improvisation comp. Artists from each element form 4 crews and improvise on topics suggested by the audience, showcasing fearsome freestyle skills. Hosted by Morganics, accompanied by Metabass Allstars and judged by the crowd.

MAY’S LANE STREET ART RETROSPECTIVE 25 March – 6 April | Free exhibition
The Mays Lane Street Art Project emerges from their renowned St Peters laneway to take over CarriageWorks’ vast foyer for a huge retrospective exhibition. Curated by May’s director Tugi Balog, the showcase will include large scale artworks created at May’s Lane between 2005 – 2008 by legendary graff artists of Sydney as well as celebrated international street artists. Vibrant, diverse and immense, the works span a range of styles; New York graffiti, spray paint, paste ups, stencils and sculpture are featured in old and new panels.
This exhibition will run for two weeks and will be a highlight at Platform 2 Hip Hop Festival which will happen 27 and 28 March. CarriageWorks is able to present this retrospective courtesy of MAY’s Lane Street Art Project.
