About me:
Our organization is dedicated to broadening participation in the community for students preschool through high school. We offer instruction and practice with skills such as language and turn-taking while participating in various leisure activities and sports. Our students play games, sing songs, enjoy outings to the zoo, the park, or the movies. They share experiences that build friendships. At the same time, our trained staff is using proven techniques to teach vital social skills. As with anything else, children learn social skills by being given ample opportunity to practice them. At PlayDate, participants are paired with peer models, similarly aged children who can model appropriate social skills. As adult implementers provide gentle guidance using research-based, data-driven methods, peer models offer both positive examples and friendship opportunities.

Attention Parents:
Free, fun opportunity for your kids!!
PlayDate is a social skills group in which students with disabilities have the opportunity to interact with other children in order to develop language and turn-taking as well as build friendships. The goal of PlayDate is to foster friendships in social situations, including classroom activities and community outings.
Peer models are an integral part of this process. A peer model is a typically-developing child who can demonstrate critical social skills for other children who may have difficulties acquiring these key abilities on their own. Peer models provide examples by simply being kids playing with other kids, participating in age-appropriate activities alongside our students. At the same time, participating in such a group allows peer models to learn patience and compassion while making friends.
PlayDate is currently accepting peer models aged 3-17 to join sessions. If you are interested in having your child participate as a peer model, please contact Sheri Chenoweth, PlayDate Assistant Director (719) 232-3498.
