Well, I see that you have promoted Robert to Playground VP in charge of Southeast Promotions. You DO realize that I have the Wilbur/Buddy "Georgia Pines" video on my page with a link to your page for purchasing said DVD. Is being a VP higher than being The Queen of Promotions?! Ha! Did you hear my loud-mouth speaking to Wilbur on the radio show?! I'm so glad that Robert arranged that interview & I know all who listened enjoyed it.
WILBUR ROCKS!

Hey Jim and staff,
I left a note on my blog but wanted to extend my appreciation to ya'll for the most excellent and tubular job on Wilbur's Mr. Red Bud. I saw David yesterday and told him he "seemed" to have played all the right notes as did Jimmy.

But I want to especially commend the engineering and mastering aspects of the recording. I consider them outstanding.

I also want to commend the artwork, very succinct I must say.

Frank said when ya' get back from the Big Easy you are going to work on the dvd. If it's as well put together as the cd it'll be a mutha'!

Well done and thanks for your generosity.

Later...

NEW Tunes!!

The Playground Team has inserted 6 new tracks for your listening pleasure on our MySpace page that would be www. myspace. com/playgroundrecordingstudio ….

As we are headed over to New Orleans for the Ponderosa Stomp to see our buds Wiley & The Checkmates with Ralph “Soul” Jackson, Roscoe Robinson, plus Teenie Hodges and The Hi-Rhythm Section is playing with Syl Johnson and Louisiana’s Last Rockabilly Jay Chevalier with the Haunted Hearts band… we’re gonna leave you with some new PRS tunes

CLEAN LIVIN By …..Reuben Howell
Reuben spent a fair amount of time in the Big Easy with bass player and cowriter Al Arthur.. CLEAN LIVIN is a Po-Pa-Ree of many musical genres represented here on the Gulf Coast We miss Reuben!

LADIES MAN By…….. You tell us who this is. We know that Wilbur Walton Jr. recorded this song, but we don’t think this is Wilbur. We’re pretty sure Buddy Buie had a hand in the writing of this song. (we’ll have to look it up in our catalog). Another cut of this song was done by Chuck Reed … Anyway …somebody tell us who this is!

TIT FOR TAT By…. Doris Allen
Another version of this vocal performance is scheduled for release on Soulscape UK later this year. We have bastardized this version by replacing some of the instruments. The work is not complete as we will add horns…. part of it was recorded in 1984 and part of it in 2007. The additional players are Fred and Cynthia Dummalot, Tom Latenzer and Clayton Lancaster…. from ’84 It’s John Hall and David Adkins.

BIRMINGHAM JAIL By…. Jay Chevalier
According to Jay and the tape boxes this was record in Vegas in 1965. Now known as Louisiana’s Last Rockabilly Jay was performing in Vegas in ’65 to SRO crowds. Jay still maintains a couple of bands and will be at “The Stomp” with the Haunted Hearts

NEVER GONNA LET YOU GO By…. The Truths Inc.
Three Dudes from Birmingham with David and John Rainey Adkins from 1973. We are including this for our Northern Soul friends.
We have a 45 releas

New Music... April 10th...

All music selections this week all involve Dothan, Alabama Musicians. As many of you know, On Sunday April 13th Many Dothan Area musicians are getting together for the Norman Andrews Benefit at "Cowboys" on HWY 231 just south of Dothan. Norman was the leader of the band "Concrete Bubble" and had been playing the Dothan area since the late 50's. Needless to say he mentored many Dothan musicans. The benefit begins at 4:00 pm. In one way or another Norman has influenced most all of the musicians featured on this week's Playground selections.. on to the music

ONE STEP AT A TIME by JIMMY GRESHAM
Jimmy is backed on this cut by the legendary Playground Rhythm Section which includes Brothers John Rainey Adkins and David Adkins of Dothan. Jimmy is the older brother of Mary Gresham, who also recorded at PRS and just recently has had a new release on Garry Cape's Soulscape label from the UK.

GEORGIA PINES by Beaverteeth w/ Charlie Silva
One of the best songs ever written (IMHO) was penned by Buddy Buie and John Rainey Adkins. The first release and HIT on this song was recorded by Wilbur Walton Jr. and The James Gang. Wilbur will be performing this song at the benefit and Buddy will be there to sing the backing harmony that he sang on the original release. As far as I know the Beaverteeth cut was never released. Beaverteeth members also included the Adkins brothers as well as Jimmy Dean, and several other Dothan area musicians.

HEAVY ON MY MIND by Doris Allen
This cut features Doris and her scorching Soul Vocals and the PRS Rhythm section. You can very easily distinguish John Rainey's rock tinged guitar bring in the band following her recitation. This is definitive "Playground Sound".. The Rock and Soul Mix. This cut was issued on "Soul Resurrection"

SO GOOD TO BE TOGETHER by John Hamiltom and Doris Allen
Again featuring the Adkins Brothers and the PRS Rhythm section.. again mo
