Music, technology, t'interweb, iPods, music (again), books, reading, writing,(music) politics, animals, dogs, fun and games. And some other stuff, probably, but we can always update this some time. Whatever.
Music
We love music, all music, all styles and genres of music. We think music is older than words - we can conceive of ancient humans who had not invented language or fire working out how to communcate by banging objects together and imitating animal sound. With something so powerful and old and, frankly, so essential, how can we define a musical experience with the names of just a few of the thousands of musicians that make our world shake.
Movies
Right now: Shaolin Soccer, The Big Lebowski, Blackball, 24-hour Party People, the new Glastonbury movie, The Battle of the Beanfield, Some Like It Hot, Cool Runnings, Matrix, LOTR, Dogma, Arsenic and Old Lace, Kill Bill, Rocky Horror, Shawshank Redemption, the Quaatsi trilogy, Dougal and the Blue Cat, Bladerunner...yadda ya - you gets it, right?
Television
Square box. Sucks you in.
Books
Great and valuable objects made of paper.
Heroes
Follow your mind or follow the leader, your choice. Am I bothered?
About me: Playlist is the club for music lovers in the digital age.
We believe the days of superstar DJs are over. Playlist takes power over what tunes are played away from the elite and into the hands of the people. People like us. Fed up being dictated to? At Playlist we give you 15 minutes to play a set of your top tunes, mixes, mash-ups, and random weirdnesses from your iPod, mp3 player, laptop, or any digital music player. The best DJs on the night win prizes, or at least endless adulation, but most important of all we all create the club together. We make it happen. It's not easy pleasing a crowd (as some aspiring DJs have found out) but it's always fun.
We are a loose collective of like minded individuals across the planet. The club began in London in 2004. There's now regular clubs in Philadelphia and Paris with more launching soon.
Contact us if you want to start your own wherever you are, or just come along and play a set, have a dance and meet the Playlist Party People at one of the clubs near you. (All our clubs are free).
Who I'd like to meet: The edgy and talented, gifted and inspired. The dancers, singers, artists and musicians; the inventors, folk-heroes, protestors, the dreamers and the driven. Writers, poets, painters and video makers. Anyone with a story, a philosophy a belief. Anyone who still thinks and talks in human - are you there?
