Words by Sadie Stevens from www.ishootsd.com
This unsigned four piece band will make it impossible for you to sit still while listening. Soft but heavy enough to make you want to jump up and start dancing, Play The Fox is definitely not like any other band on the radio. Formally known as Shenanigans, the band decided to change their name for legal purposes and to do along with their new sound. So why Play The Fox, well the word originates from the Irish sionnachuighim, meaning "I Play The Fox."
Not many bands have the piano as one of the main instruments you hear throughout their songs. This band isn't afraid to experiment and they let that be known. They manage to put together a very energetic non-stop good time vibe when they're rocking the stage at Soma. The Catchy chorus's make one think about their own life. After a long hard day at work or school, this band gets your mind off everything except the amazing sound thats pouring into your ears. As one song comes to an end, the next track stats up with a completely different sound to it.
Things started taking off for PTF after the release of the 5 track EP called "Born Today", which also happens to be the title of one of their more popular tracks, has an amazing breakdown towards the end that will make you wish you had a copy. These boy's are so talented that even Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy owns a copy. They've toured up and down the California coast promoting and playing packed shows and even made it to the top 5 in a LA radio contest and plated a sold out show on Sunset Blvd. The members are so grateful for what they have, especially after the name change and different direction they took with their music.
Lead singer Remy Cox reflected on some of the best moments in his life, and he stated that "hearing you all[fans at their shows] sing "oh! The Romance" back to us at the top of your lungs is up there at the top of the list." 2008 was a huge year for this thriving band, and '09 is starting out smooth for them as well. They have their 2nd show of the year friday, January 30th at The Church in Rancho Bernardo, and another right around the corner on February the 7th at Channel Twelve 25 in El Cajon. Everything about this band, the music they play, the type of people they are, is simply amazing. They may not look like your average rock stars, but they will rock your world. If your into rock music twisted with a little classical sound from the piano and a unforgettable voice singing lyrics from his heart, then Play The Fox might just be your new favorite band.
