Heroes
My beautiful mum who has the heart of an Angel that she is as she sits on the edge of my bed when I sleep every night:-)
About me: "My Ethic throughout life, both in my artwork and everyday choices, is that I can achieve absolutely anything I set my mind to, no matter what, as life is really what I've made of it, not what other people have made of it for me.:-)"
My passion is art. I'm a self taught artist in the style of work that I do and there is not a day that goes by that I wish that I was good at more than just that one thing. In saying that though, if the chance came up to not be good at this and all of the sudden be good at maths or medicine I would turn it down as colour makes my world go around.:-)
I've been drawing since I could pick up mum's hobbytex tubes of paint...she loved my eagerness but not so much the "mess" I left behind on the walls in my room haha. (well it was a FLAT surface and what else was there?!)
I know for a fact that if I grew up in the city I would not nearly as much appreciate the value of history, wildlife, and family as I have found over the past 15 years or so, life in the city is never slow and everyone wants everything yesterday!
I feel so unique...kind of like a person who lives in a cacoon, I acknowledge bad behavior but choose to ignore it or not take it in. I believe in fete, everything happens for a reason and there is always a positive or negitve reaction to everything a person does.
Every day is as special as the day preceeding it. I see colours in all the different shades of green in a tree or the way a bird flutters its wings on my balcony....the mere fact that it can is so special and knowing that we can't live without them, but they can live without us is something so privliged to be a part of in nature.
Colour is all about texture and mood for me. You can do a beautiful painting of flowers with only the darker shades but it will reflect a sadness or a dark place in that artists soul, so being the eternal optimist, I make a habit of not using those darker colours unless absolutely nessessary.
When I use the buses every day there is always so much more to see outside and every scene is a painting to me, whether it's a mirrored image(squiggly lines) or a collage...
I have done t shirts, mugs, tote bags, greeting cards, wall hangings and more recently calendars of my area where I live. I believe that so far I am the only person painting my suburbs/beaches and putting it into calendars from Cairns, and am very hopeful to find that sponsor or a collection of businesses that will allow me to do more calendars each year instead of one or two per year that I'm doing now.
I've been in the Cairns Eye Magazine, the ABC radio here in Cairns, The Cairns Post newspaper and cairnsbillboard, but have recently moved here, because at least for the time being, I know that this site won't jam up unlike the other...although...:-)
My aim is to get my work out there as I believe that the locals really don't want a touristy picture on their walls or a calendar of the same theme. They want something that shows off the fact that there is someone who is as passionate about their town/beach as they are.:-)
For me drawing has been the most wonderful gift and privlege given to me, and for the rest of my life I will be thankful for that as it never is about making your first million from it, but moreso what you can share with others in how you view the world from your minds eye.
~Recent News...17th September~
I've sold all of my Edge Hill Calendars so I am absolutely choofed with that! I still have a few Earlville and nature themed calendars left but I'm sure they will be gone before the year's through:-) I am currently working on my 2010 Nature themed calendar called "Natural Connections" where I'm using birds and trees primarily throughout the whole calendar but I'm adding quirky little comments under each picture as if to say that that is what the bird/s are saying:-)
Having completed my Locally Owned and Run list of businesses to be a part of my 2010 calendar, I'm looking for more businesses for the 2011 year so if you know of anyone in the Cairns area that you would think might like to be a part of it please let me know:-)
That's about it so far!
If you would like to see a Calendar of my town please email me on, pg1catluv@yahoo.com. 2009 Calendars will be, Edgehill, Earlville, and Cairns' Flowers & Plants. 2010 Calendars are close to being completed, those being Locally Owned & Run businesses in the Cairns area, and also my Nature Themed calendar.
Who I'd like to meet: People who are interested in art whether that be original paintings or to be a part of a commercial plan to create as many calendars of our region as possible. I do specialised calendars of towns inside Autralia and am aiming to branch out in doing suburbs/cities overseas.
