Label Profile
What originally started out as a progressive sidelabel for one of the biggest labels in psytrance history, Spirit Zone, is now considered one of the most important labels on the progressive psytrance scene. Plusquam Records is an independent record company, based in Hamburg at Germany..s north cost.
Founded by Psytrance mastermind Antaro, Plusquam is now owned by Juergen Schneider, aka DJ Laureth.
Laureth got in touch with electronic music back in the year 1990. Once infected by this kind of music, he started a club-party-series named TECHNOMANIA, which was one of the first techno events in Cologne, where he was living in time. This was also the place of his first DJ-experiences, playing Acid, Techno and Hardtrance.
Over the years, he got in touch with Psychedelic Trance and found his way to the first Open Air party. This night changed his life... Since then, Laureth has organized numerous of indoor and open air parties and played a lot of clubs and events all over the world.
Beneath Germany he played in countries like Japan, Brazil, Australia, Mexico, Netherlands, France, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Hungary, Russia and Thailand, including big international events like Solipse, Earth Dance, Fusion Festival, VooV + Love Parade.
From May 1997 until October 1999, he runned a weekly psy trance radio show called Paradise fm, together with his partner Thorsten Mesrine. The program hosted lots of the most known artists of the international trance scene and was broadcasted all over europe via satelite.
In early 1999 he started working for the promotion and label group Shakaree, where he founded the label Tatsu Recordings. Directly from the start the label had a major success with a unique style of deep minimal psychedelic trance and psy-tech.
In the begining of 2001 he moved to Hamburg. Later in the summer he decided to quit Shakaree and Tatsu, to start working at one of the worlds leading trance labels, Spirit Zone. Beneath his position of junior A&R Manager he cared about general business affairs of Spirit Zone and tried to develop the progressive sublabel Plusquam Records.
That time, the label was already existing since more than one year. The idea was to create a platform for different new styles, which didn't really fit to Spirit Zone. Especially Techtrance got quite popular, so on its first releases, Plusquam’s been featuring artists like Paul Brtschitsch, Thomas P. Heckmann, Gabriel le Mar or Spirallianz.
In the same time, the Progressive movement got bigger and bigger in Hamburg and artists like Bitmonx or Haldolium appeared with a very groovey kind of minimal, non-melodic Psytrance. This style became the main focus of Plusquam.
After two years of work, Plusquam achieved a worldwide great reputaion for its releases and the very special style.
In June 2003, Antaro decided to close the Spirit Zone headquarters in Hamburg and move it to Ibiza / Spain. He gave Laureth the great chance to take over Plusquam and so Laureth became the new owner.
Nowadays, the style of Plusquam is completely on Progressive Trance. The artist roster of the label contains acts like Haldolium, Bitmonx, Auricular, Buzzmonx, Buzz, Timetech, Shaman, Ryan Halifax, CAFU, Meander, Alchemix and Sunstryk.
