Hi Paul, I have been watching your profile from behind the proverbial curtain. However, I had to come out from behind the curtain to say that I have noticed that you are gathering quite a following in Milwaukee...USofA. I think it is networking!!! I said, he said, she said, "have you heard of Paul Marklew?". I am happy for ya'.
If you like the English vibe of Coldplay, Travis, Snow Patrol, Muse and other bands in this vain then you may like Paul Marklew's music?
As well as being involved in national stage musicals, TV and BBC radio shows Paul was also the lead songwriter and front-man for UK rock band Submarine. Submarine were a four piece guitar band with a melodic take on UK underground indie music of the middle to late 90's. Because of Paul's preferred style of highly melodic and chilled out songs, the vibe that they were producing as an underground indie rock band was a sound that would later become a big part of the mainstream UK sound for guitar bands. Submarine who were influenced by such musical genius as Radiohead, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and U2 surfaced in Lincoln-shire around 1996. Peter Whitehead (a consultant for BMG publishing) discovered the band almost immediately and introduced them to the UK mainstream industry in London in 1997. By this time Peter had already discovered Radiohead, Supergrass, Steriophonics and later Coldplay as well as many other successful groups from the UK. He is very well known for his ear for success and has discovered many well known UK groups since.
After a two year courtship with the UK mainstream industry involving management and lawyers, the band were eventually dropped because of their image. They were too old to be taken seriously when the whole UK industry was changing and going through the major boy and girl band trend e.g. Boyzone, Spice girls, Take That and all the other manufactured outfits that followed etc. The oldest member of Submarine was 32 and most of Peter Whiteheads major music industry colleagues (who were making the decisions) were recent University graduates with highly qualified degree's in Media studies, Law, Architecture, Landscape Gardening, Hairdressing, Butchery and nearly everything .....but music.
Skip ten years and add the equation of modern computers, very good home recording equipment and shear hard work and belief. In 2008 Paul independently released his first solo album called SONGS OF FRAGRANCE. In the last year already this c.d. album has been highly successful on US radio purely through word of mouth eventually climbing to the top of the pyramid and being played on World Café - WXPN (Philadelphia) showcased all over the United States and growing all the time. It has had a welcomed boost thru 2008/9 on very large USA radio networks including "National Public Radio", Adult radio TRIPLEA NETWORK (170 FM & Satalite stations covering the whole of the USA, Canada , Sweden and Germany) and NORTH AMERICAN BROADCASTING NETWORK (60 stations) and lots of other new up and coming hard working radio stations who are breakin thru in todays media revolution.
