Bio
"More passion and energy then you've ever seen in an acoustic artist." For when Paul Besselle takes to the stage he makes every last note count. If his guitar is his weapon then his lyrics are, undoubtedly, the bullets; each one shot with absolute precision into the hearts of his dumbfounded audience. For the past year Paul has been going from venue to venue with his backing band "Slipdown Dog" redefining the very definition of an acoustic artist; part rocker, part folk troubadour and every inch the, crowd-engaging, entertainer. Armed with an arsenal of songs ranging from country ballads to hip-hop-esque stompers, each one sang with a flair and vigour that both startles and soothes at the same time. Paul is a beguiling performer and a refreshingly different new force in music. Paul spent the first part of 2008 locked away in a studio, situated in deepest, darkest Devon recording what would become his first solo album "Within the Space of Seven Breathes." "I went in there with nothing but my voice, guitar and a whole bunch of demons and came out with sixteen tracks, it was a complete exorcism for me." After the initial recordings were down Paul called on the help of long term friends and musical companions Si Paull, Buddy Valentine, Harry Mundy and Dave Watts to help with the finishing touches, the result was a complete tour-de-force in lyrical exuberance spilling over with dark, heartfelt elegies laced atop hook-riddled choruses. "I Love making people think with my lyrics, then when I've got you thinking, I'll drop in a real catchy pop chorus, you see it's all about the dark Vs the light, tension and release." Paul was raised in a small, sleepy, Devonshire town based at the foot of the Moor; what little local activities there were soon gave way to music, and more specifically guitars. This small town would soon get a rude, distorted, awakening as he found himself immersed in the world of a rock guitarist. "There was little else to do so all I did was play guitar, sometimes for eight hours a day." Moving to Exeter in 2001 Paul found himself revelling in a number musical ventures, not least as lead guitarist in premier Red Hot Chili Peppers cover band The Funky Monks and guitarist/songwriter for legendary rockers Zubina. As well as producing works for artists: Ella Edmondson, Roger Styles, Thousand Natural Shocks and his own band Zubina. In addition to providing music for an international business-management firm based in California, Paul also delved headlong into the world of film and with friend Si Paull; established the graphic design/music production company: Sound in Theory who's first job was to complete a soundtrack for the film: "Mister 49" which would premier at the Cannes film festival later that year. Shortly after, Paul and Sound in Theory were graced with a new project; to make a film based in one of London's busy schools. With Paul at the helm filling the roll as director, the film (which would feature the acting talents of legendary British comedian Ade Edmondson,) would be a roaring success, the soundtrack to which would also feature Paul's work heavily. The film entitled "The Real World" is still being shown on Sky T.V today. After the disbandment of Zubina in 2007 Paul immediately sunk his teeth into the city's singer-songwriter scene, his strong sense of individuality linked with challenging lyrics and astounding guitar playing skills soon bestowed him a devoted following and a number of gigs supporting such artists as Ricky Warwick, (The Almighty), folk legend Rev Hammer and Canadian artist: Son of Dave (formally of the Crash Test Dummies). Undoubtedly his own person, with his own sense of style, Paul creates his own music with an extraordinarily compelling and sometimes haunting voice. His passion and exuberance needs to be seen to be believed. .. .... and .... .. .. .. .. I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace) ..
