Reginald Harmony sang in cars and brothels as a child. After graduation from technical school, he worked in a local sex shop where he met record producer DJ Inbetween and was signed to Adaptable Records. Meanwhile Felicia Plush, using the stage name Kendra Morris, started a singing trio Pinktricity. She eventually went solo and also encountered Inbetween. Having produced two releases for Morris, Inbetween decided to record Plush & Harmony together. The resulting single, "Joe," was distributed to radio stations but went nowhere for months until a local jukebox included the single's B-side, "Candy".
