PNUTZ WORLD TOUR by djpnutz
Miss PNutz spins an infinite number of musical styles, colors and flavors. Put a little of this, a little of that, tied in with some low end and you have her album entitled, "NSFW". Reigning as one of the queens of the San Diego underground, DJ PNutz's musical influences are broad. Funky, soulful and jazzy beats are laid down onto an array of colorful rhyme schemes, movie soundtracks, cartoon high jinx and whispers of random inspiration. A very impressive CD to say the least, Miss P puts forth a valiant effort and it has paid off, earning her a respectable place in the San Diego underground of sound. She began her journey in 1999 and within a year was traveling to places like LA and Colorado to showcase her talents. As of 2003 she has released numerous mixed CDs and scores of self-produced tracks. Between flying to Napa California for a New Years Bash; traveling to Tempe AZ to participate in the Rebirth fesitval, and opening up for such names as DEL the Funky Homosapien, Haiku D ' Etat feat. Aceyalone, Young M.C., Ab Rude & Mikah 9, Zion I, CMA, Typical Cats, The Grouch, NMS, Simply Jeff, ONE SELF with dj Vadim, Deep Fried Funk Brothers, and numerous others. PNutz has been a busy girl. In July of 2004 she was asked to join SUN DIALECT RECORDINGS (www.sundialect.com) one Southern California's hottest up and coming underground labels, and currently has residencies with Thrusters, The Downbeat, Soul Glo, and Earthbound Radio. In the fall of 2006 PNutz also joined forces with Soul Province Recordings (www.soulprovince.com) headed by members of Jeshno, the Twelvez collective and Earthbound Radio. Her limitless talent will take her far in this business as it seems that there is nothing regarding music that this girl can't conquer. (by christine erice@ sdmusicmatters.com)
With the help of Pnutz, SDTI hosted a hands-on Dj instructional demonstration at the Museum of Contemporary Arts La Jolla in April of 2007 which was met with great enthusiasm by the staff as well as patrons both young and old. Beginning in January and ending in March of 2007 The World Beat Center in conjunction with Dj Artistic and Dj Pnutz hosted an after school program at Palm and Lemon Grove Middle Schools. The program focuses on teaching children in grade 6, 7, and 8 how to Dj using vinyl records and Cd's. Not only were the children taught the fundamental techniques used in Djing, including scratching and mixing vinyl records, but additionally focused on basic music theory and beginning digital recording while trying to incorporate the historical significance of Djing in music. This is the first after school program of its kind in the Lemon Grove school district and averaged 10-20 students per hour sessions (4 session per week). Most recently Dj Pnutz taught a class at M-Theory San Diego for National Vinyl Day that featured a guest set by world renowned Dj Z-Trip and also hosted a youth dj class for San Diego Women in HipHop. Welcome to Theory of Tides. Check out our crosscurrents of alt rock, hip hop, techno and trance. Feedback, tell us your faves. Happy to have you here/hear in our Tidal Pool. THE TIDE IS IN…AND SO ARE THE REVIEWS ‘N’ INTERVIEWS:
-NEUFUTUR: “Mirana’s vocals further establish Theory of Tides as a truly special act, one that can use the widest possible swath of approaches to create the music heard here.” - SKOPE: “Cool, hip and modern beats are fully loaded on this new albumand I simply can’t get enough!” -EMUSIC: “…it’s like alternative trance music, with brief smatterings of hip hop/latin beats. Arty, yes - but does it work? Actually, yes.” - NEUFUTUR: “Theory of Tides, and this album specifically, should be seen as a blueprint for how to properly incorporate disparate genres of music into one cogent sound.” - SKOPE: “…Mirana simply sang her heart out while she meshed in perfectly with Rick’s production the all around connection at the end with everything coming together beautifully proves that the tide is high.” - NEUFUTUR: “Karaoke is Theory of Tide’s first bona fide hit, with cohesion abounds between the instrumental and vocal sides of the act. This results in a track that rides a groove while Mirana’s vocals clue listeners into a wonderfully detailed narrative.” - EMUSIC: “Track’s like ‘Elated’ have an Ibiza-in-summer feel and a deep house beat underneath Mirana’s distinctive vocals. ‘Hour of Pain’ is built on a swishing cymbol symbol beat and keyboard chords, and again it works – the vocal fades and quiet bass additions are spot on.” - SKOPE: “One aspect that I truly loved about his album was the use of sounds and beats. The sound production is spot on with Rick bringing his A-game. I heard everything form hip hop, pop/dance, technoish, trance like and tribal beats…”
As you may or may not be aware SoundARC hold a charity gig every year at Club 85 in Hitchin in aid of the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, and this year we are going to try something a little different from previous years.
This year we are going to take over the club and host 37 acts in one weekend putting full bands upstairs and acoustic acts downstairs in an event that we are calling ARCfest!
It all starts on Friday 4th December at 7pm and then continues on through Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th from 12pm-11pm
As well as raising money for the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, ARCfest will showcase all the different genres of bands that we at SoundARC have come across over the last 4 and a half years. Over this weekend a lot of the acts that you will see don’t get a chance to play a great local venue like Club 85, So as well as hearing new music you will see all manors of genres and styles from acoustic - Metal - Indie - Rock - Punk - Electro - Ska - Funk - Hip Hop/Rap - Alternative - Rhythm & Blues - Reggae - Grunge and loads more that I cant remember!
