About me:
Poekoelan Tjimindie (pu-ku-lon, chi-min-dee) is an Indonesian martial art (pentjak silat) with some Chinese kung fu influence taught at Tacoma FightAlliance near downtown. Tacoma FightAlliance has classes in traditional arts and mixed martial arts (T-Town MMA classes and competition team). This art was brought to the U.S. by a Dutch-Indonesian man named Mas Goeroe Agoeng (grandmaster) Willy Wetzel. The style is very thorough consisting of stand up, ground fighting, and weapons defenses. This style as well as other Indonesian martial arts is beautiful and fluid but very fast and aggressive. The aesthetic and movement of this animal style (monkey, tiger, snake, and crane) is unique... very unlike what you find in the karate, tea kwon do, or kick boxing classes that are more commonly around. The symbol of our art is the rose, beautiful to look at but protected by thorns if touched. Students are encouraged to develop their own way of moving and fighting. This class is open to men, women, and children. Students are supported in attaining whatever their personal goals are in training weather it is the discipline of a traditional martial art, to get into shape, or to train solid self defense skills. Our door is open to all types and abilities.

Our youth program is called "T-Town Dragons" (6-12y) and Poekoelan is a great art for kids because it incorporates a lot of freestyle movement and creativity which kids relate to. Kids are also taught Brazilian jiu jitsu so they can compete in various types of tournaments. Martial arts tournaments happen year around and unlike softball or soccer kids learn useful skills to help keep them safe. Our head instructor has taught self defense and safety to youth in public schools and Girl Scouts

You are welcome to come in and watch a class or participate in your first class for free. Classes in grappling/wrestling, mma, kick boxing, and Brazilian jiu jitsu (bjj) are also available at FightAlliance. Here is our schedule and contact info...

Tues= 4:00-5:00 Tacoma Dragons BJJ, 5:00-6:00 Tacoma Dragons Poekoelan / 6:00-7:00pm= Poekoelan Adult

I thought you might find this video quite entertaining due to the fact that we all have this certain love for bladed weapons. Especially weapons as beautiful as these are.

Let me know your thoughts and take care!

Due to your being in various styles and taking it seriously I thought you would appreciate this video. Here are some videos with my fiance in there. She does all the martial art styles I teach. She has been a student at my school for 13 years. A very impressive technician and fighter.

Let me know your thoughts!

Good class this week! it was nice to actually get to do some grappling with striking! sucked that i couldn't participate, but it was a great class none the less. i hope to get in more work like that because it is more realistic and it really gives people a good look at the way things really are. i'm hoping to get something set for fridays so we can get in a bunch more of that kind of stuff and even start from stand up. it's nice because we have gotten to the point where i feel comfortable doing this type of stuff once in a while because everyone who is attending the class is catching on to what they need to be doing as far as the grappling portion goes. as for you: if someone is posturing up and you can't break them down then, by all means, create more space and get up! the theory, which really does work very well, behind breaking your opponent down is based on the idea that your opponent is really trying to keep you pinned to the ground. if you start to create more space, pop up & get out then they will be forced to pin you to the ground! then you will be able to work on the stuff we have been doing. i have taught tom & mike to keep good posture as much as possible because they can strike better from that position since they are so long. i think that the fact that you are so small and female makes it hard for them to strike you very much or want to keep you pinned down. alot of the guys have the same problem with Ashley, the kickboxer, but she gives them a beating if they hold back to much in the stand up area. she's been doing alot of the MMA classes lately and it takes the guys a while to adapt to fighting with a female! all of the guys are really good kids with a very good up bringing and have been taught not to be rough with a woman, this has been a topic of conversation between me and several of my male students. i think that when i was their age it would have been the same for me but, now i have trained for so many years with
