Day-to-day living, Nikki Giovanni, Amiri Baraka, Langston Hughes, Carol Clahar (my gangsta ass mother), Bea Smicle (my gangsta gangsta granny), my homegirl Lisa Armstrong -yeah, she actually can make a difference in my opinions sometimes... the people who influence my life are not usually superstars or prominent people, its the man we see on an everyday basis... the homeless man who says something profound, the old lady with a lot of stories about past experiences... yeah... and I got friends too... Not many, but I got 'em.
Shawna Loca is a writer/poet/spoken word artist based out of Tampa, Florida. She is Jamaican by birth, parentage and nationality, but has resided in the United States of America for the last fifteen or so years.
Shawna has written many poems and short stories. She has self published one small collection of poems called "Mismatched Thoughts," and has completed her first audio cd. The cd album title is "If My Shoes Could Talk," and is a compilation of fourteen poems. She is very, very proud of the spoken word collection, which was produced by three different producers- Cotton Gin, C-Skills of the rap duo C-Skills and Prolific the Gifted, and DJ Kirky C of Poison Dart Sound.
So, now that we have gotten the formalities out of the way, lets REALLY talk about Shawna. She is an avid believer in the science of Astrology... and she is Sagittarian. Shawna has somehow (she remains uncertain as to the exact reasons why) developed the reputation of being a man-devouring, heartless beast. LOL. Shawna contends that there is not one normal, heterosexual male this side of the Americas that can bear witness to these so called man-devouring incidences.
She is a single (thankfully so) parent of one boy, Amiri Shawn... Amiri has truly shown himself to be Shawna's child... she would have demanded a DNA test if he behaved any differently than he currently does. He is high energy, extremely friendly, very very loving (just like Shawna, heehee), smart as hell, and loves music, poetry and quite likely all the arts.
Back to Shawna... she has acquired several monikers, all of which present themselves as the very epitome of self-aggrandizement (and she is lovely with this): Shawna - GangstaPoetPimpinChameleon, Macktastic Shawna Loco (shortened to just Shawna Loca), and many many others... Although she is shy, modesty is definitely not one of the characteristics one would use to describe her.
Shawna is loved by many, and hated by several... That's just how it works, one would imagine.
