With their classic singles Wulajanjara, Jambarr and Radio Mbeda, the Poetic X stood tall for years as one of the Gambia’s leading rap voices outspokenly speaking their minds, and they don’t care to let people know what they think of just about anything, so they rap about things that happen in and out side the Gambia. Whether proclaim them selves the hip-hop extremists or the lyrical Mujahideens, the self-appointed kings of rap fought numerous battles for their position in the Gambian rap game.

The group was set up in the year 2000 by Ayo, BMG and PMS, after sometimes BMG quited. Then they collaborated with Peppa House Crew and set up a rap squad called Da Bull Doff Army. After a while Sensitive joined them, then Big U. They also invited Bilal to join who by that time was working with Yetteh J, and had already started making a name for himself in freestyle sessions. Both Sensitive and Big U resigned shortly after Bilal joined.

By 2003 Da Bull Doff Army started its full time operations preaching real hip-hop and attacking rap-mbalah artists accusing them of misleading the children with their pornographic lyrics. They also attacked the system of who you know instead of what you know; they ride on corrupt cops too. They where denied access to perform on certain concerts, so they sometimes organize open-air concerts to show the people what they got. They even when on to represent more of the squad than their individual groups with slogans like hardcore 4 life, the truth cant be conceal, hip-hop till da end of time, With all these hardship they managed to make Da Bull Doff Army to be known country wide.

After quitting Yetteh J, Bilal was working as a solo artist before joining Da Poetic X in the year 2004. Three years later in 2007 Da Poetic X resigned from Da Bull Doff Army because their main partner Peppa House where found guilty for breaking Da Bull Doff rules, and the Poetic X felt like after years of representing they cant turn out and go against the same thing they where preaching, because they claim to be men of their words.

Since their resignation from Da Bull Doff Army, Bilal frequently visited Senegal where hip-hop is more recognized than it is in the Gambia. After several performances in Senegal they caught the eyes of many hip-hop fans, producers, and promoter in the tough arena of the Senegalese hip-hop. In 2008 they where offered a compilation deal by a well-known studio in Dakar called Def Dara.

The group is currently sign by an indie record label called Da Block Ent. Studio, own by a Gambian artist residing in Sweden. Watch out for these young revolutionary because their next move will be like destroying and rebuilding. I think people got to know the balance, people got to know why they are who they are, and they will really try to show that in their debut album INSHALLAHU.
