Poetry, music, fiction, philosophy, cosmology, visual arts, organic gardening, breastfeeding, non-violent parenting, PEOPLE. I perform poetry, and I play guitar and sing.
Music
U2!!! Calla! Joy Division, The Velvet Underground, Mitey-Ko, David Hyams and Miles to Go Band, Andy Copeman, Nick Cave, Bob Marley, Electrelane, Bob Dylan, The Arcade Fire, The White Stripes, PJ Harvey, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Blac Blocs, Vivaldi, Brian Eno, Snow Patrol, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Dya Singh, Mike Scott, Steve Wickham, John Coltrane, The Cure, The Church, REM, Simple Minds, Bruce Springsteen, Television, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Leadbelly, Elvis, Macedonian folk music... anything trancy... a taste of techno and a handful of hip-hop now and again... it's easier to say what I don't like: sopranos, Kenny Rogers, Kylie Minogue, Britney whatsherface...
Movies
Recent favourites: Control. U23D. Stranger Than Fiction. The Water Horse.
I used to watch all kinds of shit but I'm usually bored by mainstream cinema nowadays, although I sometimes take my kids to things and I did think the most recent Harry Potter was actually better than the book. But no more animated penguins, please!
I like movies that are about people's emotional states, movies with true-to-life interior scenes, subtle visual jokes, stylish music, and unpredictable plots. French, British or left-field American, but rarely Hollywood.
Television
I don't watch much TV, find most of it slow, dull and soulless. But there are few shows I have really enjoyed: Andrew Denton's Enough Rope, Sex and the City, Creature Comforts, Daria, The Naked Chef (Jamie Oliver's earlier work, when he still cooked normal food), Monty Python and other inventive comedy, arts and history docos, Rage... and the things I used to watch years ago like Northern Exposure, The Young Ones, Star Trek, Rock Arena, and let's not forget Countdown and Play School.
Books
James Joyce, Ursula Le Guin, Terry Pratchett, Louis Macneice, most kinds of poetry, novels & stories especially sci fi, urban fantasy & historical; online poetry and weirdness zines, biographies, newspapers, cd liners, cereal packets... total text addiction. Currently (Jun 08) reading Oscar Wilde.
Heroes
The people I admire most are those who seem the most true to themselves, who aren't trying to be something they're not, even if other people don't get it. My mum & dad! Molly Meldrum! Andrew Denton. Michael Stipe. All the members of U2, especially Adam Clayton. Quite a lot of people I actually know, including some of my myspace friends, like Linda Jones (Hawicklass) and Steve Smart. Any woman who succeeds in her career or artistic field without compromising herself personally. Any queer person who is really out.
About me: I'm looking for writing-related paid work! Performance (my poetry, yours or someone else's); any kind of writing including technical or corporate; ghostwriting; editing; teaching creative writing, poetry or performance; selling books; literary administration... whatever. All leads appreciated.

Hi Janet Just a wee message to let you know I'm thinking of you and sending you good vibes. DANCE like no one is watching LOVE like you've never been hurt SING like no one is listening LIVE as though heavens on earth.
we sing our heart-dreams loudly into moonlit skies, wishing upon flickers of light, skipping our smooth hope-pebbles along the wide ways of promise.
ripple, they do, these echoed promises, in thousands of shimmering circles resonating our life’s expectancy as we cast silken spun web-nets trying to capture the elusive understanding;
Thank you for you friendship..I really appreciate it!.. Wishing you a wonderful weekend filled with Love, Peace and Light! Jah Bless and Guide!.. Ital Love... Melanie...xx
