I love going places I've never been before (although I never get enough Toronto, Canada), writing poetry and lyrics, different languages and all the nuances of the English language, good coffee, good tea, royal watching, world war II (European theater), vampires, floating in the pool
under a hot blue sky, everything Robert Plant, music music music, the internet, meeting interesting people, working with my hands in the rich, moist earth, my continually fascinating James, mojitos, jordan almonds, Cracker Jack, and candy cigarettes, going to the movies... and... proving that the pen is indeed mightier than the sword...
MORE OF DIANNE'S POETRY CONTINUES AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS
COLUMN. Another poem appears in the right-side column; and new poems appear in the blogs from time to time... (but it's so much more fun to play with Paint and photos!)
Music
There are so many different soundtracks to the movie that is my life: Robert Plant/Led Zeppelin would be the opening music, with Frank Sinatra, Andrea Bocelli, The Beatles, The Monkees, The Doors, Devo, Adam Ant, Arthur Lee and Love, T.Rex, Beck, Rammstein, Loko Phylum, Sting, Pink Floyd, Walter/Wendy Carlos, and The Moody Blues filling in the last five decades. I also like Nine Inch Nails, Afghan Whigs, Lindsey Buckingham, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Paul Simon, Gorillaz, Glenn Miller, Mozart, and Bach.... can't get enough Rammstein... and I LOVE the new Robert Plant- Alison Krauss CD "Raising Sand"! Right now, I'm into Robin Thicke's "The Evolution of Robin Thicke", Jefferson Airplane's "Crown of Creation", Steve Earle's "The Revolution Starts Now", and Lindsey Buckingham's "Under The Skin" (this last one is fantastic!)...
I am an avid movie-goer, seeing as many as seventy movies a year in the theater, plus watching dvds at home... favorites include "Closer" (an excellent movie for dialogue); any David Mamet movie, "Hellraiser", "Sin City", "Mystic River", "Mystic Pizza", "The Nutty Professor" (the original one, with Jerry Lewis), "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", "Dirty Dancing", and any apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic movie (an atomic explosion/mushroom cloud= bonus!).
Books
I don't read books, I devour them. I especially love biographies, disaster stories (both natural and man-made), historical novels, and well-written mysteries. I'm really into reading a lot of poetry right now, and have just discovered Beaudelaire. I read all the contemporary poetry journals that I can get my hands on. And I love the poetry of my MySpace friends....
My latest interests have been "Living The Wisdom of the Tao" by Dr. Wayne Dyer, "Robert Plant, The Solo Years" by Neil Daniels, "The Buzzard" by John Gorman with Tom Feran, "Ron Jeremy, The Hardest Working Man In Show Biz" by Ron Jeremy, and "The Fortune Cookie Chronicles" by Jennifer Lee, ... and I am ingesting every poetry book I can get my hands on... I ALWAYS NEED MORE... MORE...MORE....
(the first two books are absolutely fantastic for poets! and three of my poems appear in the Magnetic Book and in the Haiku Anthology...)

I was a member of the Haiku Society of America for many years, and have had over 70 of my modern (style of) haiku published in: Frogpond, Modern Haiku, Dasoku, AntAntAntAntAnt, Brussels Sprout, Amelia's Cicada, Woodnotes, South By Southwest, The Red Moon Anthology 1998,
Burnished Pebbles Calendar (Canada), Ko (Japan), Haiku Spirit (Ireland), The New Haiku Anthology (England), and Haiku World: An International Poetry Almanac.
THE NEW HAIKU
Review by Alan J. Summers
1 Sep 2002
"This anthology showcases many British and Irish poets who regularly write within this genre.
The quality of the production is consistent throughout the book on many levels, both in the contemporary haiku published from the best British haiku journals, to the essays and the resource directory.
Haiku is now officially of the 21st Century!
This book complements many other groundbreaking anthologies such as the ones published by Iron Press, namely the Haiku Hundred and the Iron Book of British Haiku; and The Haiku Handbook by Bill Higginson published by Kodansha International as well as the Haiku Anthology, and Haiku Moment.
Personally I feel that this is a must have for any poetry lover not just haiku enthusiasts!"
One of the happiest moments of my writing career was when Jonathan Frid (the actor who played "Barnabas Collins", the vampire, in television's Dark Shadows), wrote to me, asking permission to use three of my poems in his touring program "Genesis Of Evil". He performed these shows in 1984 in Dallas, Texas, San Jose, California, and Newark, New Jersey. (And he was kind enough to send me a recording of the show, which I was unable to attend, due to a family member's death. I was finally able to meet him after a new show that he performed in Cleveland; he was utterly charming, and I'll never forget that thrill.)
I've also read on WCPN radio, Cleveland; performed my poetry at Hessler Street Fair, Cleveland; done featured poet readings in Akron (Borders), Olmsted Falls (Northrops Books), and Cleveland (Mac's Backs), and more recently, have read at open mics at the Barking Spider Tavern (Cleveland), the Madison Rose bookstore (Lakewood), the Brandt Gallery and The Lit (Tremont district, Cleveland), Joe Sundaes (Sandusky), the Huron Boat Basin (Huron), Borders Books (Strongsville, with the Deep Cleveland group), Jim's Coffeehouse (Elyria), Mac's Backs, and the Phoenix Coffee Co. (South Euclid) (sponsored by the Poet's Haven). The Phoenix reading was recorded and is available on podcast here. Three of my poems, which I read during the open mic portion of the show, are on the second half of Episode part 6. I love meeting all the different poets and hearing them read-- the poetry is wonderful, and there's nothing like hearing it live!
February, 2009 Update: I now co-produce the monthly Lix and Kix Poetry Extravaganza" in the historic district of Tremont in Cleveland, Ohio. My co-host and cohort in rhyme is John "Jesus Crisis" Burroughs, a good friend and great poet. Each third Tuesday of the month, we present featured poets and musicians, a kick-ass open mic, and a companionable evening of literary hijinx in one of the best bookstores I've ever experienced, Visible Voice Books. Check out the link above for details!
My poetry appears several places on the internet; including in the anthology files of the "Magnetic Poetry" site, a Russian haiku site ("Dr. Ink"), and on various blogs and personal pages. John "Jesus Crisis" Burroughs has posted my poem "Muse" on his Online Library, and photos of Cleveland area readings, including ones I attended, are sprinkled liberally throughout his blog pages. I post my new poems in my MySpace blog; and I have paired several of my poems with photographs I've taken, and displayed them on my Myspace profile page. I strongly encourage the sharing of poetry, and as long as you include my name and credit me with the writing, you may copy any of my poems for use on your own pages. Poetry is a people-art...and we need to literally spread the word! *** Currently, I have about two dozen poems sent out for editorial consideration... five have been accepted for publication... so far!
