   Hakkımızda poetrynight

“An evening of spoken word and acoustic performances occurring every Monday night.”

From our website.

Poetrynight began over ten years ago at Stuart’s Coffee House in Bellingham, Washington. We now read at the Anker Café at 1424 Cornwall Ave. Since our inception, the reading has provided an open, supportive venue for countless poets, musicians, writer and performers to display their work, and has fostered a community of poetry and letters.

The last few years have seen a profound transformation for Poetrynight; the reading has grown, evolved and matured. We are proud to have provided a mic for poets from all over the country: from Buddy Wakefield to Mike McGee to a hundred others that you have never heard, but should have.

Poetrynight continues to change and grow, as more people add themselves, their voices and ideas. We invite you to come down and listen and – should the mood strike – to speak.

"The best open mic on the west coast." –Jack McCarthy

"Reading for the poetrynight crowd was a great experience." –Maria McLeod

"The single best resource for people wanting to study performance poetry that I've ever found." –Mark L. Anderson, about the podcast.

"The quality of writing here is amazing." –Sarah Morgan

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001

Where traditions are not so rare;
    Sea, country and works scent the air;
A multitude of monuments,
    Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

The longish pedestrian malls;
    The remnants of defensive walls;
Historic buildings are a gauge
    Of the respect for heritage.

Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
    Estuaries guarded by shields;
Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
    Romantic-ruin go-betweens.

Rivers in parts licked by trees,
    Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
And crossed by practical delights -
    Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.

Fine churches headed at Durham;
    Football kits ad infinitum;
Kept castles - one for study;
    Masonry behind masonry.

And, with moulding-works out that way,
It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

Dear  Friends,
We're announcing our new business hours:
Fridays and Saturdays from 2-7 p.m. if by any chance you're nearby, come in for a visit. Our "harpist in residence" will be playing.
Here is artist Rochelle Brown's attempt at a Rembrandt reproduction

Rembrandt
 In your eyes I see a love of painting, your brush strokes bring to life grandmother's pleading eyes. My child, my child it really is you that I see. In Rembrandt's eyes a wishing well, the best the deepest wish that ever could be...

(Hi: enjoyed my visit.)

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN

Once drove an old sedan, up north,
From a place in Sydney to Cairns;
Then to Kuranda I went forth,
By train, to look without set plans.

I browsed through the trendy market,
With fresh fruits of tropical kind;
Walked to the creek through lush thicket -
Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.

I dined in a scenic cafe;
Then, outside, as I wrote for yen,
Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey,
You go walkabout with your pen.”

Request or question, I don’t know -
Assured voices, elderly men.
That’s now several years ago,
And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

Dear Poetry Night,

We're just getting ready for the artwalk here in Bellingham. If by any chance you're in town we'd love it if you could visit.
Here is a painting by our Navajo artist Teddy Draper:
also some very intresting artworks available.

Running Wild
Skip and dance, roll and run. Follow that cloud.
My friend is the night, it sings a song of stars. And never stops chasing me through the valley down below.

Dear Poetry Night,
How are things with you? Stop by our page and say hello.
Here is a painting by our artist Rochelle Brown

Northwest Encounter

The women approaches to get a better look at the heron that was so frightened. Her brilliant smile has stunned him. In the mists of the northwest coast at the shore, the San Juan Islands that are in the background are floating.
The heron is caught in her charms…
