The Underccroft, St Andrews - StAnza's best venue, though not its largest, generally used for readings by Scottish poets. it doesnt touch Morden Tower as my best venue, but its a good venue all the same, and you're lucky to read in it once in ten years.
I leave it mostly to my friends, who have such strange tastes as opera, ethnic instruments (deerbone pipe music the latest), electronic music, etc. Me, I like the Beatles and Beethoven.
Movies
twenty miles from a cinema, we dont go often. Last film seen was the Gaelic film Seachd, and the one before that was Sigourney Weaver's Snowcake, as Ian was the model for the story of the male character.
Television
Dont have one, and it saves us hours of time, as does our 3 second journey downstairs to work.
Books
Oblong objects. Read em, write em, make em, sell em.
Heroes
Wittgenstein, Van Gogh, Princess Diana, Beverley Nichols, Paul McCartney, Jean Muir.
About me: My name is Sally Evans, or SallyE. I live in Callander, Scotland, and you've guessed, I'm a poet. I'm not new to blogging - I have a website, desktopsallye, and I edit the broadsheet Poetry Scotland which also has a good website of its own. I have two grown up children, somewhere. I have shared my life, home, bookshop and garden with eccentric Scotsman, busker, bookseller, publisher, bookbinder Ian King for about twenty five years. The books I have published are shown on a special album in my pics.
My poems on this page are recorded by Liz Price who also wrote the music. On the Kyle of Lochalsh Railway Line is one of the poems in Snappy Day, Poetry Scotland's first CD published on 1 Jan 2008.
Who I'd like to meet: other poets, artists, gardeners, and anyone with the same interests, and of course anyone I lost touch with in earlier years. The majority are already turning out to be poets, but I'm not afraid of the rest of you, and I'll also be welcoming a few other Sally Evanses and Sallys from around the world.
I've sorted out my calendar (below). I'm just putting a few events here as I'm finding it complicated. March is shaping up busy, in fact March is full, unless it is en route between these places. I have a fuller diary on the What's New page of desktopsallye.
Delighted to meet you, Sally. I shall be straight back to read your poems and get to know you better. Looking forward to that. Warmest regards, Nicky.x
Magic. I shall go bug the librarians tomorrow, they'll love me. And to answer the Burns question, it would be the first line from 'To A Mouse' with the wee, sleekit cowerin timrous beastie that springs to mind first.
Quick question - If I wanted to bookbuy on the 8th when you and Ian are hosting Stirling Writer's Group, would that be okay, or would I have to stop buy during regular shop opening hours?
