Pointbender is the solo project of DJ Sean Anderson.
At the age of 15, Sean picked up turntablism while working at a BBQ joint in Dallas. He would take his hard earned tips and spend them next door at a record shop called Spin Masters. Already a fan of Edgeclub, he took his affinity for electronic music and bought his first pair of what he called "shitty turntables" in December of the same year.
At the age of 16, he played his first party at Dallas restaurant "Jamaican Red" and in 1999, he moved to Houston, TX to become a resident DJ at Hyperia, playing at venues such as the Orbit Room, Numbers, Riches, and the Iball. During his time in Houston, Sean befriended Eric Reeves and gained in interest in producing tracks. While throwing and promoting large-scale parties, Sean gained the attention of local and state government agencies. His battle with the law was captured in a piece featured in the Dallas Observer in July of 2001.
In 2000, Sean moved back to Dallas and began producing tracks with Eric Reeves under the "Grey" moniker. In 2002, Grey released their first project on the highly acclaimed label "Guidance"-- a release that was featured on Miami CSI, MTV's Road Rules and the Real World. Less than a year later, Grey would open up for John Tejeda at the Homebar.
Grey continued to release tracks between 2003 and 2006 on Blunted Funk, Deepness, Boogie Basics, and their own label, Harmonious Discord. A move to Austin prompted Sean to start producing under Pointbender as an outlet for "techier" music.
The sounds of Sean Anderson have taken him around the world to cities including Toronto, Helsinki, Marseilles, London, Berlin, LA, San Francisco, New York, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Miami, Detroit, Chicago, and all over Texas. Although considered "tech house" by most, Pointbender's Live PA performances incorporate a wide range of electronica genres and styles--from techno to house to minimal-- that blend seamlessly to create what he calls "epic nonsense."
