About me:

Although musically easily in the same league as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet and other great U.S. acts, Point Blank didn’t seem to enjoy the same acclaim as these other bands. They were formed in the mid seventies by guitarists Rusty Burns and Kim Davis, vocalist John O’Daniel, drummer Buzzy Gruen and bassist Phillip Petty. Between 1976 and 1981 they released a total of six albums. Point Blank was a band that toured constantly averaging more than 250 one nighters annually and lived by the adage “When the Going gets tough – the tough go touring.” After musical differences, management difficulties and other conflicts the band decided to shut it down. ****************************************************************************************************************************************************************** “POINT BLANK IS THE GREAT UNSUNG SOUTHERN ROCK BAND, AND THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN DENIED THE SPOTLIGHT FOR TWO REASONS – ONE, THEY WERE FROM A LITTLE LEFT OF THE DIAL, FROM TEXAS, AND TWO, THEY ROCKED TOO HARD AND ORNERY FOR RADIO TASTES. WHILE THE OTHER BANDS – ALMOST TO A SHAMEFUL MAN – TONED DOWN THE RHETORIC AND THE RAUNCH TO CHASE THE DOLLAR, POINT BLANK CONTINUED TO MAKE HAND-CRAFTED ROOTS ROCK WITH INTEGRITY AND HEART FOR MILES.” MARTIN POPOFF, AUTHOR – SOUTHERN ROCK REVIEWBad Bad Blues
****************************************************************************************************************************************************************** The albums have been reissued on CD and created a new interest in the band. After reuniting for a benefit concert in 2005 the core of the original band decided there was a true desire to play together again. Since their inception in 1974 their music was meant to be experienced live. Rusty Burns, John O’Daniel, Phillip Petty and friends have RELOADED and are ready to hit a new generation Point Blank. I saw Point Blank BLOW AEROSMITH OFF THE STAGE on their Toys In The Attic Tour in Baton Rouge.  Also saw them with ZZ Top and/or Ted Nugent.  Great band that never got the accolades they deserved.  Glad to see you guys are still out there.

I saw Point Blank blow Aerosmith off the stage during the Toys In The Attic Tour (Baton Rouge).  Also saw them with Ted Nugent and/or ZZ Top.  Just missed them (as well as LeBlanc & Carr) when the two of them were supposed to open for Lynyrd Skynyrd in Baton Rouge when the Skynyrd plane fell out of the sky.
