This is the story behind the name Pokey Elf. Elf is quite simply my initials. A lot of friends and acquaintances have picked up on this over the years when I have initialed documents and occasionally refer to me as Elf.

Pokey on the other hand is a term of endearment my wife Maryann has labeled me with. I have always been somewhat of a leg man and Maryann has lovely long legs. So you ask what does this have to do with Pokey. I myself am short compared to Maryann and I also like to take life shall we say a little bit slower. From the day we first met it has always been this way. The night we first met we were both enjoying some live music at a local club.( Gulivers " A Wicked and Lustfull Establishment") When I and my friend first arrived at the club I noticed an empty table next to a table occupied by three girls. I said to my friend, “Bobby lets sit over there” (with hopes and intentions of good things to come). We sat there for awhile before I felt someone kick my seat. I turned to make eye contact with Maryann who quickly apologized sort of matter of fact like. I accepted her apology and turned back to enjoy the band. Later on I found out that this made her a little angry since the kick was intentional in hopes that it would open up an avenue for dialogue. I on the other hand needed to be hit over the head as they say and I was a little slow to realize this. Luckily a short time later I mustered up the courage to turn back to speak with her and ask her to dance. To this day quite often you will find me lagging behind stopping to smell the roses, taking a little more time to check out each animal at the zoo, watching the sunset, etc while Maryann rushes ahead to conquer the world. So there you have it, the story behind Pokey Elf.
