Please join us tomorrow (Wed, 10 June) for the opening of »Black Box«, a room-filling installation containing works by Benjamin Laurent Aman (FR), Sébastien Maloberti (FR) and Marcel Türkowsky (GER).
Benjamin Laurent Aman invited the two other artists to help him actualize the as-of-yet theoretical conception of the »Black Box«.
The three artists approach the multi-layered subject »Black Box« as experimenters, thereby creating a system of tests in which events can be followed, but which also lends itself to substantiating different modus operandi. Oscillating between possible and impossible implementations, they transform notions of reality and illusion into a dimension of functional describability, while revealing the character of the exhibition space as an in-between place.
The artistic media used in this range from photographs and drawings to installation and sound. Not least of all, the exhibition is marked by a moment of ignorance, in which none of the artists are aware of each other’s intentions and strategies.

Join us tomorrow (Wednesday) at STYX for the opening of Jacqueline Brown's first German solo exhibition.
In her drawings, installations, videos, and sculptures, Brown turns an inquisitive eye on nature and its strange formations. Rather than relying on the clichés of German or English Romanticism in grasping for some lofty implications of truth within the sublime, Brown largely focuses her concerns on the manipulation of natural phenomena by humans for normative purposes that often seem comical or simply bizarre upon closer inspection.

The material for the sixth performance of the Film in Sounds series is Eraserhead. This surrealist-horror masterpiece from David Lynch features the nightmarish experiences of Henry Spencer. „A dream of dark and troubling things“ as Lynch mentioned it. One of the peculiar aspect of the movie is it ́s original soundtrack. As the film is set in a slum at the heart of an industrial center, the soundtrack itself is almost exclusively composed of the noises of machinery. For this performance, PURE & CHESSEX will create a new sonic envirornment to the movie proposing a reinterpretation of the Eraserhead experience.
