About me: "Police and Thieves" is a punk radio that is on hiatus. You can listen still to WUSC within 30 miles of the USC campus by tuning your radio to 90.5FM or you can listen to us anywhere there's an internet connection at wusc.sc.edu
This show is hosted by DJ Jordan, me, who has, in all truth, been denying all the "punk is dead" chatter while secretly fearing that it is true. "Police and Thieves" is, therefore, more of the show for aging punks. If there's something you haven't heard in awhile you'd like for me to hunt down let me know. I take requests. Except for Henry Rollins. It's the show for aging punks not aging poseurs. Also, please don't request bad pop punk. There is good pop punk in the world. To determine whether or not what you're about to request is outright shitty music, do some research. Has the band in question appeared on a "Hopelessly Devoted to You" comp? Does the band in question have four letters in its name, at least one of which is "x"? If the answer to either of these questions is yes then it can be established that it is shitty pop punk music. I mean, I might play it if you request it, but it'll sound out of place when sandwiched between good songs. If you want to request decent pop punk you can use the following guidelines for determining worthiness. First, has the band ever been on the Honey Bear record label? Second, is the band Discount? Anyways, that should clear up some things. To make requests contact me through this myspace account.
The reason that I've pushed to host this show on WUSC is that, beyond simply the actual music, the DIY ethic of punk is possibly the most critical element towards preserving the individuality of communities. As the role that media plays in our lives continues to change and evolve so must the countercultures that exists to challenge it. On "Police and Thieves" I will be playing any genre of punk rock that is not from a discriminatory or hateful standpoint. This includes most hardcore, pop punk, classic punk, screamo, skate punk, et cetera. In Columbia we are fortunate enough to have an amazing college radio station that is mostly student-managed and operated and largely independent from the University. For more information about WUSC-FM please check out our myspace page or our regular boring website at wusc.sc.eduAlso, as you can see from the playlists, I'm very very willing to play local music.
