In this new video, inspired by tremulous events in Russia during the early 1990s, Polina Zaitseva whimsically creates a visual timeline of socio-cultural evolution by manipulating media footage, old Soviet animation and self shot footage and photography.
Spiked with humor and irony, NINETY ONE conveys childhood memories, nostalgia and tradition. The video, punctuated by revolutionary Putsch, is based on occurrences two years prior to Polina Zaitseva leaving Saint Petersburg and arriving in New York in 1993 at the age of eleven.
