Polish Club is an improvisational duo resulting from the collaboration of David Jensenius on electronics and Tom Crean on dobro and vocals. Polish Club is a project where the music "happens." In an interview, members stated: "Polish Club is like Fight Club, we don't talk about Polish Club." The resulting music is the the common ground between two friends, which could be described as "improvised avant-pop."
David and Tom met over the course of their tenure at Wesleyan University in the Masters program in composition. They became friends over many mutual interests varying from the obvious (music) to the casual (video games) to the eccentric (the 1964 Amphicar 7-70). After years of friendship the prospect of a collaboration was introduced, and Polish Club was born.
Polish Club has been featured performers at music series like FFMUP (Princeton University), and the Uncertainty Music Series (New Haven). Over the course of the past year, Polish Club has almost exclusively worked on their album "ppppppppppppppppppppp." To create the album many hours of improvisational performances were recorded over the course of a year. These performances were then cut to and brought to producer Alan Veniscofsky, who assembled the final product. This method is in contrast to the traditional route chosen by other improvisational artists of recording a single live performance. The result of this process is a manic, sometimes soft, multi-dimensional album that has a unique and consistent flow.
David Jensenius is a composer based out of Brooklyn, New York. He is interested in translational musics, sound derived from real or artificial environments. He earned an MA from Wesleyan University studying with Anthony Braxton, Neely Bruce, Alvin Lucier, and Ron Kuivila. David is currently working with The Polish Club, an improvisation group with Tom Crean using dobro and electronics. David is also involved with spurse, a group creating large and small-scale research based cross-disciplinary works. (http://david.jensenius.org )
