Politics reviews July/August 2007 Politics top the Ondertopper hitparade at OOR!!
"Weird monologues like in Import Kiwi Monologue, or hilarious love songs like Racevardriver, Politics can do anything. They manage to sound like themselves, are of a high quality, and are able to songsmith very catchy tunes. A dream debut!"
"Since approximately 5 years I've been actively searching the internet for small and unknown bands, and I've managed to find a couple that match the musical abilities of top bands like R.E.M., U2 and Oasis. I've been wondering for quite a while however, why there are almost no Dutch bands with these qualities. {...} Now Hands Off My Riot by the Rotterdam band Politics lies in front of me and I know that there is at least one." "The performance in Zaal De Unie is very convincing and the numbers
from the debut album "Hands Off My Riot" make a lasting impression.
Nothing stands in the way then for the revelation of "Rotterdam's
Best-Kept Secret": Politics can make it big." 3voor12

"Unconventional, but in the end always accessible. Excelsior has
been warned." - LiveXS
June 2007 (in Dutch)
Read on: Politics from Rotterdam were a long time coming. But the men
spent this time in the practice space: a few years have passed between
when we first heard from them and their first album. "Hands Off My
Riot" is the name and plenty of work has gone into it. All the boxes
have been ticked: the Amsterdam studio, the guestrole for Caesar's Roald
van Oosten, and the production of jack-of-all-trades Remko Schouten (Coparck,
Voicst and Bettie Serveert, a.o.). Politics balance on the edge between
pop and indie. Their guitar pop is definitely unconventional, but in the
end always accessible. Sometimes they sound a bit nonchalant (Railroad
Song), sometimes quite intimate (Racecardriver). The musical comparisons?
Like The Shins with a shot of Pavement, a dash of Kamino plus Alamo Race
Track, and a sprinkle of Coparck without electronics. Always, however,
themselves. Excelsior has been warned. Anton Slotboom.
Like all good boys, Politics have played in several bands before. The effort with DL Bucket and Stuttgart resulted in an EP and a split EP respectively.
Summer 2006 saw Politics record their debut CD, working with producer and engineer Remko Schouten (Coparck, Voicst, Caesar, Taxi to the Ocean, Devandra Banhart, Bettie Serveert, Mono, Pavement). This CD will be released May 19 2007 on the Laterax label.
Politics play songs. Songs that may go any which way, mind you. "Ranging from serious to silly back to 'deep shit' this band plays to impossible combination of 'broken rock' like Pavement and 'stadium rock' like U2, but still manage to sound like Politics." (note from the editor: i forgot who said that, but somebody did anyway.)
Politics have played Local Heroes on Rotterdam TV, two Live in your Livingroom's, de Melkweg, and together with other up and coming bands like Moss and Alamo Race Track.
Their first single, "Borders (Even if it Takes All Night)" was chosen Rotterdam' single of the week on Megastad FM.

luistert naar de titel: “Most people are other people”. Uiteraard wordt
er inmiddels alweer zorgvuldig aandacht besteed aan het artwork. En
hierbij is jouw hulp is hard nodig!
Heb jij altijd al een keer
met je hoofd op een cd-hoes willen staan? Zodat je thuis kan zeggen;

Many thanks for the add. Hope you enjoy the music and message behind it. My mission in life is to fight Human Trafficking. understanding the individual pain of others is sometimes to painful for an other individual to touch and that is frightening ...what i mean is that someone whose life is not traumatized and brutalized as a regular sequence of every day events unconsciously seeks the camouflage and shelter of apathy and banality from the reality of such devastating anguish and terror ...but the spirit of young people who are used as sex slaves in the systematized global industry of human trafficking is now reaching out to the human fellowship in hope and desperation and through technology ...it is scary when humanity turns a blind eye to this horror ...its like ignoring genocide whilst it is happening ...what i am asking is that if you hear the cry of these young people who are existing in an environment of torture and brutality each and every day that you then please do not turn away from them ...please reach deeply into your heart and soul and please in 2009 join a movement or become a part of an event that challenges modern slavery in the 21st century ...
