After a long, three year wait of writing, assembling the band, and whipping everything into shape, Politique have finally released their debut self-titled album!!
A sordid love-triangle of bittersweet indie, synth punk and electro conspire to wrap you up in this debut!
The band has been extremely busy on the live front, hitting stages in Montreal, Toronto, The Drake, Zaphods, and in July 2009 having the honour of playing the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest. 2009 has seen Politique sharing the stage with Youg Galaxy, Small Sins, M-83, Winter Gloves, Ruby Coast, Hey Ocean, etc...
With respectful nods to the past and wide-eyed optimism to the future, songs like "Drifter", "She Makes My Mind Smile" and the sexed up electro-nihilism of "Old War, Cold War" make it clear that this definitely ain't your daddys new wave…
The focus of “Politique” was pure pop bliss - synth - pop melodies, indie energy, and dance punk rawness all thrown into the audio blender...
Mallory makes the vocals swoon. Etienne pushes the beats into the red. Richard layers on angular, wire-y guitar everywhere. Roland whips up the Moogs and bass.
Available now on iTunes and at these fine indie record stores:
CD Warehouse (Ottawa)
Compact Music (OTT)
End Hits (OTT)
Criminal Records (Toronto)
"This Ottawa foursome gives their electro pop compositions bounce - there’s a slinky swagger to these proceedings that, live, would definitely light up a dance floor. “Fragility Is Not Frailty” is the most rock-based thing here and it pulls together elements of indie and a dash of dark ’80s post-punk, while “Loveless” is the most enjoyably frenetic, with its smattering of bloopy sounds and intense cymbals. Politique also recall Metric’s finer moments on the addictive “She Makes My Mind Smile.”
Exclaim, July 2008
"With a beat base, the 11 songs on Politique's self-titled debut draw a line to Blondie, Stars and Controller.Controller, tipping hats to New Order and My Bloody Valentine along the way. Thanks to countless singles (songs) and duos (people) that have melded dance beats with rock, musical snobberies have fallen by the wayside - Politique makes for a kind of jagged sound that is textured, referential and wholly sweet on the ears.
It's not bad for dancing, either!"
Ottawa Citizen, June 18
"The music is beautiful, well done..."
Torq Campbell, Stars
Politique is our collective take on electro/indie/post-everything sounds, injected with adrenaline, heart, and soul. The same sentiments people had in 1979.
But with new twists.
Our plan was to take years of experiments with synths and samplers and apply it to a more 'song' based medium than club-based tracks allow.
Roland plays synth, bass and vocals...
Mallory has been singing like a bird since birth. Some say even before...
Etienne plays drums and enjoys a hedonistic lifestyle of women, drink and gambling.
Richard plays guitar by his-own-damn-self. No one fucks with him - umm, messes with him.

Yeah loads better, it healed within a week. Sprains always feel worse the first few days, then start to feel better.
Saw what's left of The Cure last week - a shell of their former selves and nothing without keys. I walked out before the encore! Apart from that the best gig I have been to recently was probably Miles Hunt and Erica Nockalls. I can't remember anything else of significance (probably too drunk to recall in great detail!).
