Pollution Party is the collaborative effort of Bettina McEntyre and Rochelle Koivunen. We strive to bring awareness of consumption to the public with humor and ask the question: what is waste?

For the month of November Pollution Party has taken over The Life Gallery with the installation "SickleSweet Swallowings: a Toothsome Tale of Irreparable Indigestion". Using reused, recycled, and reclaimed materials, the duo transformed the space into a parlor complete with stenciled wallpaper, a reconstructed mantlepiece, mounted trophy heads, and a gilded chandelier. Intestines wind their way through the furniture and are infested with polyps. A symphony of bodily functions is aural accompaniment.

Rochelle Koivunen lives in Portland and works out of a studio in Old Town, where she paints, dances, sews, and collaborates. She graduated from Portland State with a degree in painting and printmaking in 2005, then flew to Europe where she participated in artist's residencies and exhibitions. She has been an integral part of many collaborative projects, including printmaking, murals, installations, sculpture, and performance. Her work has been described as fantastic, whimsical, and appealing to those young at heart. Through her art she attempts to spread awareness about environmental concerns and enthusiasm for the power of individual action.

Bettina McEntyre is a Portland artist emerging from a fresh subculture of illutstrative painters. Although she has only been living in Portland for less than two years her work is fast evolving with murals already spotting the city. Bettina studied fine art at The University of Tennessee, concentrating on film and photography. She has worked in the broadcast industry as an editor, videographer, and filmmaker. Since then she has traveled from the path of time-based arts to full-time painting and illustration. She concentrates her time between murals, paintings, skateboard deck designs, and t-shirt designs. Her style is character-guided and visually intoxicating with bright, bold colors and patterns. One can usually identify Bettina’s work by her organic sinuous brush style. Her favorite techniques involve brush painting combined with spray paint. Bettina’s influences range from street art to installation and performance art.

The installation "Plutonium, The Forgotten Plant: One Hundred Years in Trashland Nature Reserve" was at Backspace Gallery in April of 2007. It is made of found, reused, and recycled materials. Pollution Party collected the discards of a cosmopolitan consumptive culture and transformed them into an allegory of an imagined future where the radiation we have infused our environment with has had free reign.
