Formed in 1984 when Keith Dion and Jay Faulkes jumped up on stage with singer/songwriter Gavin Buxton at the Chateau Tongariro, The Ponsonby DC's soon made an impression as support band for Peking Man at the Gluepot in Auckland. The band recorded six songs at Last Laugh Studio and four songs at Mascott Studio and then Keith returned to his home town of San Francisco. He moved in with Klaus Flouride of the Dead Kennedys and the DKs loved the Ponsonby DCs recordings and they encouraged Keith to put htem out. Keith and his friend Arty West formed their own label, Strange Weekend and put out a 12 inch, self titled, vinyl record with seven songs on it . The album got lots of airplay on college radio in the US and got rave reviews many magazine including Spin (June 1986). When Gavin rereleased the album the album on CD in 2005 it got in Radio NZ critic, Nick Bollinger's top ten Albums for the year in The NZ Listener magazine. In 2007 Keith returned to NZ and the band got together to record the second album. The result is "That's What All The Girls Say"
