About me:
My name is Bill Bolin. I live in Shady Side, Md. and have a wife, Christine, and two children. My son Zack is 14 and my daughter Alyssa is 11.
I have recently traded away my GTO. I am looking to get back to my favorite hobby.......racing! I now have a 2002 Camaro that has a 540ci Big Block Chevy that will run mid 7's in the quarter. It's not what I intend to keep, but a means to an end. We'll see what happens.
My "old" car info:
The car is a 1970 Pontiac GTO. It has a 474ci Pontiac engine in it with two blowers ( superchargers )on top of it. The top blower is a 8-71 BDS Stage 2 blower and the bottom one is a 6-71 BDS Stage 2 blower. There is also a Superchiller intercooler under the bottom blower and a NOS 300HP nitrous system on top. The transmission is a Turbo400 reverse manual valve body with a transbrake and a 9" ATI blower converter. The rear is a Ford 9" w/ 4.11's and 35 spline axles. The rear tires are Mickey Thompson 33 X 18.5" ET Streets.
The interior is all custom and includes Porsche 944 seats that have been recovered with Allante Leather material in a Buckskin color. The rest of the interior is covered in the same material including the door panels, headliner, dash, tubs, rollcage sleeves, and console. The door panels and trunk are also custom embroidered with Pontiac indian heads and Pontiac arrowheads. The interior was done by James Mclain of Stitch-Up Upholstery in Edgewater Md.
The paint is PPG Orange Glow. It is a Kandy type paint that is sprayed over a silver base. There are 3 coats of silver base and 7 coats of orange on top. After they were applied, each coat of clear was wetsanded between coats. The bodywork and paint was done by James "Cotton" Hemsley of Newburg, Md.
I drive this car to shows 2-3 times a week in Maryland. It was built as a STREET CAR first. I didn't build it as a SHOW CAR or as a RACECAR!!! To have a fast racecar, a super clean show car and a cruising car that can be driven everywhere usually requires 3 seperate cars. I had to compromise on a lot of things to get it the way I wanted it. That is why I consider it a street car. It isn't the fastest car around nor is it the prettiest. I don't have the $$$$$ for that. I just built a neat street car that was designed to be different and stand out in a crowd. I think I accomplished my goal. I will be racing the car soon but can't do it with the double blower setup on it. The bottom of the engine wasn't built strong enough to handle the kind of HP the engine makes. I wasn't planning on the stacked blowers making that kind of boost. When I called the blower manufacturers, they told me it couldn't be done. ................................................................................................................. ...............................................................................................................................................................................
