BBC Representative reveiws. Surface Unsigned Festival, 1st Round @ The Rainbow.
From Coventry come Indie Garage-Rockers Poor Frankie. A cross between Kings Of Leon (especially vocally – Nic’s got a real Caleb Followill edge to his voice) and Queens Of The Stone Age, it’s a loud, compelling noise that demands your attention. Driving guitar riffs and punchy, precise beats are the hallmarks of a sound that is both contemporary yet deeply rooted in American rock n roll. An intense performance from a band that have got serious potential; if there’s any justice in the world these lads are surely destined for big things.
Surface Unsigned Festival, 2nd Round @ The Factory Bar
The third band of the evening was Coventry’s Poor Frankie. Maintaining the high standard they delivered in their first stage effort, they gave an intense, measured performance of their Indie-Blues-meets-Garage-Rock sound. While there is a clear, heavy Kings of Leon influence in their music, they make it all very much their own the result is something that is refreshingly stripped down, unique and genuinely exciting. It’s the quality of their material where the band really stood-out.
Fuck yeah tonight was fuckin awesome lads, will try n get yaz on the Colli gig with us. I fuckin love Harmonise My Soul its proper driving rock n roll. Charls.
