poor tree started in may of 2003 when christoff engbrecht, david streit, and michael goertzen were invited to put something together to open for a band at the collective cabaret in winnipeg. we did, having no idea that it would live beyond that show. it would become poor tree: each of us writing out a page on the typewriter and afterwards reading the pages out line by word by sound. other variables became involved: intially dave's portable turntable and dirty birdy, etc.. since, we have performed alongside a good number of musicians and sound artists. often darcy bunio (on guitar, stick, analog, etc) does shows with us. * we've done shows in bookstores, art galleries, cafes, studios, bars, churches, house basements, music stores, and festivals (winnipeg folk festival, element circus). we have also been featured in the poetry magazine CV2 and have been on the radio now and then, CKUW, UMFM, and CBC. * in the summer of 2005 michael left winnipeg for vancouver, and now lives in istanbul. dana landry joined poor tree soon after his departure, and then in the summer of 2007 she too left to study at concordia in montreal. * we are currently in the process of putting together an album. almost finished... * we type where and when ever. contact us if you're wondering. here or at poortree@gmail.com.
