Poostosh emerged from interminable improvisations in front of mixing console of the booth of the one respectable Moscow club /theatre, where we all were working. Initally we were called "Dark Brigade", but it was a short moment. The name "Poostosh" appeared in 2002. In Russian it means - uncultivated plot or a heath. We were playing and recording in a lot of different styles without any serious mixing, in one cut, quickly creating the sound of a compositions due to our mood in that moment. Thus our genre has formed - laid-back, evocative, experimental, slightly psychedelic, always attracted by contemporary classic music and shoegaze/post-rock, cinematic dimension.
In May of 2005, I (Mikhail Salnikov) decided to establish a new label - Untime Records to issue music of Poostosh first of all. With support of our friends, "UNTIME" album revealed itself for listeners.

2007 - MONSTAAR RECORDS has released the album QUTH meets Poostosh at the Secret Door. QUTH is a dark ambient project of Mikhail Salnikov. The album is a result of experimentation in an particularly ambient field. It has a nostalgia for times when EG Records existed. The album's mood is thick and trippy and will satisfy every ambient lover.

Poostosh 2002 can be bought (MP3) on CDBaby from now on. It's actually the first album of Poostosh and it can be considered as proto-Poostosh in present comprehension (there were no Andrey Gavrilov yet and sound was different).
Misha Salnikov and Andrey Kovalenko with a support of friends started recording their improvisations in 2002 (guitar,flute, percussion etc) with using mixer, MD and tape players as playing instruments as well. Here you can listen to the album conjuring up associations with such groups as Controlled Bleeding, Rapoon and The Hafler Trio.

Diverse palette of styles (post-rock, ambient, electronica, trip-hop, with elements of noise, dub, neoclassic and free improvisation), united by cinematic, slightly pensive mood.
«Herbarium» is called so because of heterogeneity of «songs», which can be compared to miscellaneous leaves in the album, still being belonged to the family of trees. Trying to avoid non-alive metaphors here, only thought of diversity and warm and innermost feeling that herbarium is capable to conjure up. «... This leaf I picked up in the park where I met her, and this - I sat by the river, contemplating...». So tracks were created – one was captured in some magic jam, another – recorded layer by layer and meticulously mixed then, next – cut from previous sessions and so on.
All compositions are united by Poostosh sense of music – mostly pensive, spatial, tender and experimental. There's a lot of soul and charisma in every leaf... So please let your soul look over our HERBARIUM.

The launch of

This day is considered to be the beginning of the mankind space era. The first
man-made sputnik was placed into orbit by a rocket vehicle from Baikonur
spaceport. A radio beacon was installed on a board of sputnik for monitoring
the flight and carrying out an investigation.
