Popcorn Taxi has been conducting screening events in Australia over the past seven years. Our motto is “Watch the films – meet their makers” and that is exactly what we have achieved, bringing to our audience industry luminaries such as Baz Luhrmann, Wim Wenders, Kevin Smith, George Miller, Richard Linklater, Gillian Armstrong, Sydney Pollack, Phillip Noyce, Danny Boyle, Roger Corman, Barry Humphries, Dennis Hopper, Anthony Mingella, Ewan McGregor, Phillip Glass, Geoffrey Rush, Edgar Wright, Bryan Brown, Andrew Lesnie, Mike Figgis, Eric Bana, Alex Proyas, David Zucker, Rob Cohen, Michael Winterbottom, plus special filmmakers special events with key production members from The Matrix, Star Wars and Superman Returns.
Popcorn Taxi’s regular, non-competitive screenings program features a smorgasbord of local and international independent film and video works. Screenings range from feature films, documentaries, television, and short films. Founded in November 1999 by independent filmmakers Gary Doust and Matt Wheeldon, Popcorn Taxi has since presented more than 350 film screening events (and counting).
What makes Popcorn Taxi unique is the focus in these forums on the filmmakers’ craft and careers rather than tabloid-like gossip. The aim is to explore why the filmmakers made the choices they did and how they brought their visions to the screen. The guests are usually Producers, Directors, Editors, Cinematographers, Writers, Visual Effects Supervisors, Designers, Composers and Actors.
Recognised by the Australian Film Institute with the (AFI) Byron Kennedy Award for ‘outstanding creative enterprise in the Australian Film Industry’ and recently awarded the Inside Film award, Popcorn Taxi’s has a commitment to developing the most innovative, entrepreneurial film event in Australia.

We wanted to give all our friends a gift, so here's the gift of film; a tastefully sized web video player running a couple of hours worth of the best short films in the world to you, for free (some people expect you to pay for films you know). Perhaps the coolest thing of all is that it even updates when we add a new film each week. So, enjoy the gift, watch some films, and if one isn't grabbing you hit the >| icon to skip to the next one or you can hit the book icon for more info on a film and links to the filmmakers, there's all kinds. Have a great weekend! xCoffee
