About me:

.... Pop the Cap SC is a grass roots effort to bring South Carolina’s archaic beer laws into this century. The movement is led by a group of beer enthused citizens who believe everyone has a right to enjoy their beverage of choice. Our primary goal is to further the Craft Beer movement in South Carolina.

In 2007 our efforts led the SC State Legislature to change the state law that defines the term beer in SC code allowing us all to buy, brew and enjoy beer with up to 17.5 percent alcohol by volume (abv). Under the previous definition, which dated back to prohibition, 6.2 percent abv was the cap.

On May 2, 2007 at 4:23PM Governor Mark Sanford signed House Bill 3218 into law forever changing the definition of beer in South Carolina. Popping SC’s cap was a major victory; but the fight continues.

Since Popping the Cap, Jaime Tenny created the South Carolina Brewer's Association. It is the natural evolution of the Pop the Cap SC campaign and the organization that will continue to push a craft beer focused agenda in South Carolina. I will continue to update this page and utilize it to communicate legislation action alerts.

Beer rights are your rights. We call on all South Carolinians to join the fight. Help your state keep up with and capitalize on the growing demand for craft beer.
