popup are from glasgow. they are damian, adrienne, michael and nicholas. some might say that they've worked up a storm - others might say that scottish weather is too turbulent to notice. they rehearse in a drafty old tobacco factory near the river clyde where they sit close together to keep warm. this is how they write their songs - by sitting close together until an idea sneaks in through a crack in the wall. there are many cracks - things break - guitar strings, drumsticks, amplifiers, hearts and tempers, and so damian, adrienne, michael and nicholas have nowhere to hide - no option but to be honest. they can only be themselves or be popup. and so popup simply sound like popup - like damian, adrienne, michael and nicholas from glasgow, and without a word of a lie.
they have played a few hundred shows in the uk, europe and the u.s.a. some highlights include sets at t in the park, latitude, the wickerman festival, the borderline (london), the paradiso (amsterdam), the knitting factory (new york) and at sxsw 07 & 08. they have released three singles and one album on art/goes/pop records in the uk. they have grown closer together and had a good few laughs doing so.

On "A Time & A Place", some said:
"..All we ever want from our pop music is a connection, someone who understands the pain or pleasure in our predicament, our hopes, our dreams, and perhaps most importantly, our failures. We want someone who can convey our hurt in a way that makes us not sound like a clown. Look no further." THE LIST
"From ramshackle folk to spitfire indie anthems. - Orange Juice meets Alex Harvey. Immense." DAILY RECORD
"..An idiosyncratic and surprising listen..A brilliant debut" THE SCOTSMAN
“A refreshing record that comes complete with its own supply of vibrant originality” SUBBA CULTCHA
“Glasgow’s own original artrocker / storyteller, Alex Harvey (The Sensational Alex Harvey Band) is probably the last who could pull this off so successfully. (Now, if that doesn’t compel you to check out this album, then your soul is most definitely in chains!)” ARTROCKER
"This is a warm, exciting debut that makes you want to hear it again and again." IS THIS MUSIC?
“Sell your teeth and buy this record” UNPEELED

On Popup, some said:
“Three guys and one girl who specialize in jerky, kinetic acoustic pop, Popup are Scotland's biggest unsigned band, and if you only see one new Scottish act, make it them. Following on from a triumphant series of American dates sponsored by Radio 1, they seem poised to make it. Imagine Arab Strap on fluoxetine and you're getting close” NME
"One of the few remaining islands in a sea of monotony.." THE GLASGOW HERALD
"A band edging dangerously close to cracked pop genius.." BEAT SURRENDER
"Popup seem to have that little bit of indefinable magic that helps to conjure up simply gorgeous songs." CD TIMES
I can't remember if I told you guys or not. But I was in one of my favorite record shops about 2 weeks ago and came across your CD, picked it up in a heart beat and gave it to my brother, it's been playing in his car ever since.
Many thanks for the add. Metonia wish you well and good luck in your ventures. Please feel free to leave comments on our sounds/vids/pics good or bad and spread the word. Much appreciated... X
Thanks again so much for playing on Sat! You were absolutely amazing and helped make it a really special night. It was fab to see you all again too. Nick I'll pop in to see u for a wee pint next week.
Damo, thanks for your kind comments they mean all the more as you are amongst the bands I listen to. You filled the hole for me left with the sad dimise of the go-betweens. Fantastic stuff (you don't sound like the GBs by the way you just evoke their sensibility). I have never been to Glasgow but to remedy that I am taking the family there for a week in August:-) We'd love to play there one day. Where would be good to play for someone like us. I like the look of Pivo Pivo. Pete
we fucking love you guys so much. remember when we kissed on the mouth all of those times?!?!?!? TEAM LOVE SHOULD BE THE NAME OUR FRIENDSHIP. YA KNOW!?!?!
Grouting? I wouldnt know where to start- my kitchen walls are a curious yellow shade (I m unconvinced thats the colour they started out as).
Went to see Dr Hook the other evening with my dad- marvellous times. Frontman (the eyepatch wearer) is ageing eactly as Id like to. Totally confused, self medicating with Stella & late nights.

Grand to hear from you. How's tricks? Seems like ages ago we played with you. We are hoping to finally get the album out in August - it has been a bit of a nightmare & seems cursed! Often pondered just burying the master in a mine shaft under a ton of lead (why did we record it on an Indian burial ground?)
Anyway grand to hear from you, say hi to Holly and need to try and get a gig together again!
