The founding members of the band first got together to play straightforward twelve-bar Chicago blues (they had all attended a particular Paul Butterfield concert as teenagers, although they didn't know each other at the time and didn't discover that fact until many years later) but soon began to write their own material, which is a little bit hard to describe. It's a little bit bluesy. It has some heavy country influences. There's also a lot of rhythm'n'blues, Motown, Stax, a combination that the boys (who have an inordinate fondness for gin-and-tonics) call "Red-Eyed Soul."
