Self-Produced and fully new, Porsche Smith is back on the scene with her latest DIGITAL release, "Loveland" - a complete switch from her neo-soul debut, "About Life". Smith now delves into the realms of pop-electronic-soul with occasional blurps of Hip Hop and Ska. So just why did Ms. Smith make the transition?? ANSWER: "I transitioned in my LIFE. I was tired of feeling mellow with nothing to get up and dance to." QUESTION: So are you not doing soul anymore? ANSWER: "I will always BE soul- I can't escape that... But in terms of putting out the same ol' tired rim-shot beats with rhodes, I couldn't do THAT anymore. It's like watching a re-run of the twilight zone and staying stuck in '95." QUESTION: Don't you think it was risky to make such a drastic change in your genre of music? ANSWER: "It was risky for me to STAY doing the same thing. Everything is all about progression." QUESTION: Do you feel like you'll lose any portion of your listeners? ANSWER: "Hopefully not - I'd say most genuine music-lovers aren't confined to a box of one TYPE of music. I see it as a chance to expand my horizons as an artist and to grab the attention of other audiences." QUESTION: So, everyone knows you wrote and composed pretty much all of About Life - What about your latest project, Loveland? ANSWER: "Although I was hoping to collab with some other artist-friends, I ended up writing and producing all 3 songs. It kinda took me back to high school when I used to make beats because I haven't done it in soooo long." QUESTION: Why only 3 songs? ANSWER: "Well, I initially planned to do a full-length album.... However, being back in school, I realized that I wouldn't have the time, not to mention the cash, to actually put one out this year like I planned. So I decided to release an appetizer until then." QUESTION: So you're in school? ANSWER: "Yes, Grad school and it's kickin' my butt! But hopefully not for long - just need to get thru this semester!" QUESTION: Is there anything you'd like to say to those reading? ANSWER: "Yes - Special Thanks to Jonte of Chosen Garage Music - he helped mix the project once it was all said and done! Special thanks to the John Lennon Songwriting Foundation for gracing me with my new board; I've been creating stuff from the JUNO ever since! Thanks to the people and situations who helped inspire me to put Loveland out - you may or may not know who you are lol... And of course, supreme thanks to God for the gift of creativity and the ability to replicate everything on wax the way I hear it in my head lol. I am good Porsche, workin as a banker and stayin busy....work, gym, church, school. Working on my masters now. I am going to have some type of crazy, relaxing, and fun vacation in 2010....been to busy to go anywhere this year. I know your music is awesome and how are you doing?
